"Key and coin SCRATCH test" video clip!!!

For anyone wondering or worried about your iPod scratching, I made a video that shows off the strength of the Invisible Shield protective film that I bought for my 60GB 5G iPod.

The video contains close ups, key scratching, and a ziploc bag full of keys and coins to "simulate" an iPod inside your pocket. In the end, my iPod remained scratch-free.

Here's the video:

Don't sue Apple if you want a scratch-free iPod... just buy a good case 🙂

So what do you think?

Hi Greg,
Mine sticks really well around the edges of the iPod. As long as you apply the invisible shield correctly, you shouldn't have a problem around the sharp edge on the front of the iPod.

The film covers the click wheel and select button BUT since the invisible shield is pre-cut, you can choose to apply it or not.

The click wheel is still responsive with the film on it.

Hope this helps,
Richard

when you were installing the shield, what did you do to keep water and soap from getting into the headphone and usb ports? and will the shield come off around the edges, especially the corners, if you put it in your pocket or in the case that was included with the ipod? and will lint or dust (any kind of debris) get stuck under the edges of the shield when on the ipod?

Hi Jeremy,
Since I squeegee'd most of the water off with my fingers before I applied the film, there was hardly any water that could go into the ports. I had a can of compressed air but I DO NOT recommend shooting it with air or anything because the film blew off when I was trying to apply it.

As for the shield coming off the edges... When I first applied the shield, I held the edges down with my fingers until they stuck. The edges have yet to come off the iPod.

I keep it in my pocket all the time now, along with bubble gum rappers, keys, coins, etc. I don't use the case that was included with the iPod so I can keep it "clean" for when I sell my iPod on eBay to get the next 6G iPod! :-P

Thanks for the video, Richard, it was great. After I put Inv. Shield on my iPod I couldn't resist and took also some keys to it to see it for myself. Amazing! Yes, I started g-e-n-t-l-y (just in case!..) and got to the same "vigorous" scratching as you did in the end. Now I don't have any worries about carrying the iPod wherever. Great stuff! Did you cover the whole body, or did you leave the click wheel "naked"? I covered mine entirely, and there's only very minimal loss of sensitivity on the click wheel.

i just got my ipod invisible shield and i was
wondering: once you put the skin on, will you be able
to see any scratches that was on the ipod before
applying the skin? Like, the skin is on the ipod
already and can the scratches on the ipod itself be
seen?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that question since my 5G was scratch free before I put the invisible shield on. I liked the invisible shield so much that ordered one for my scratched up Palm Treo. I'll let you know when I find out.
