iPhone 3G 2.1 says no Sim Card

Hi, just finished downloading and intalling the 2.1 firmware update and everything was just fine, but after the update my iPhone 3G says "No Sim card inserted" and instead of signal bars i get this No Sim message.

So Restoresd via iTunes, After Restore it now a message on the iPhone appears saying "No sim card installed, insert and unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone". Could you help me please!

I bought the iPhone 3G yesterday and it was working fine until today when I had this problem for about an hour. No phone calls in or out and a "No SIM card" error when I powered it down and back up.

When I sat down to really look at it, I popped out the SIM card while the iPhone 3G was on and wiped a cotton swab on the metal contacts. When I inserted it back into the iPhone 3G the "No SIM" message disappeared and the signal strength bars appeared, first small then full bars followed by "AT&T".

Seems simple enough, but maybe this can help avoid a trip to the phone store.

Good luck.
