Apple Mobile Device Support fails to install

I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit and I just installed iTunes 8. The Apple Mobile Device Support software failed to install (you could see it rolling back during the installation). I've tried removing everything (iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Updater) according to the instructions on the support site and then tried reinstalling with no luck again. I also tried running the mobile device support installer by itself but that didn't work either.

Please help, I need to get my iphone reconnected!

Okay, I have just read through all pages of this topic and had found my solution. Basically, I was running with iTunes 8.1 and trying to upgrade to 8.2 so that I can upgrade my iPhone to 3.0 but errors were all I was getting. A window would pop-up reading: Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\SyncServices\Schemas\Notes.syncschema\Contents\Resources\com.apple.Note s.tiff and also that "it is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." I could not delete the AMDS folder and tried just about everything here with no luck, except when I renamed the AMDS folder (I just added 1234 at the end), unzipped the iTunes download and ran the Mobile Device Support and it installed! I then just upgraded my iTunes to 8.2 without any problems. Hope this helps someone as it did for me.

Awesome! I just checked this thread for the first time in months. Your idea worked, although, the only thing I did was rename the file. Other than than, I deleted all apple software, but never required a restart or changes to User Account Control settings.

Finding the file in Windows Explorer was kind of difficult. I think the path was Program Files > Common Files > Apple > Mobile Device Support, and I renamed it with DELETEME on the end of the folder name. Finally, I uninstalled through the control panel.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

AHA! My awesome powers from my amazingness has figured a solution. All I had to do is uninstall itunes, quicktime, AMSU, and Bonjour. Then delete iPod Photo Cache Folder in Pictures and the itunes Folder in Music. And also delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple, C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update, C:\Program Files\Bonjour, C:\Program Files\iPod, C:\Program Files\iTunes, and C:\Program Files\QuickTime (if it hasn't been removed already). Then just download and install itunes!

P.S. If 8 doesn't work try 7

I've got a brandnew iPhone 3GS with Version 3.1.2 (7D11) and downloaded iTunes 9.0.1. At home (XP SP3) everything went fine and smooth. At work (SP SP2) I receive this awesome "This iPhone cannot be used, because necessary Software isn't installed. Please reinstall iTunes" and so on (roughly translated from German language).

usbaapl.sys and AMDS service aren't installed and therefore not running. Following this and other discussions I've unbundled setup.exe and extracted AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi. Afterwards I've started msiexec with option /l*xv, which led to some 9MB log-file. In that I've found the following lines

+Rough translation of that "Error code 0x800B010E": Lock operation could not be continued. Certificates could not be verified.+

And then the whole install was rolled back. I've tried this whole reinstall, install older ones, reboot stuff with no solution.

Now I received hints about the driver being digitally signed, which cannot be verified thru company firewalls at work. What do you think? Any idea about how to get this verification done or the signature away from the driver? What about other people working in big companies behind thick and (in fact nearly) unchangeable firewalls? Do you have similar problems?

Kind regards
Frank

PS I've got local admin rights on my machine (but of course no managing rights on my company's network)
