Happy with 2.1 Update

Well, I for one am very happy with the 2.1 update. AT&T provides me with weak 3g coverage at my home even before the 2.01 update. While my 3G coverage from ATT is not any better, the iPhone does a much better job of hanging on to the signal than 2.02 did. I no longer drop calls when I am sitting in my living room. Battery life seems better to. Usually after 8 hours of use i am down a 1/4, it is still showing a full charge.

Hey Steve,

So far I'm happy with the upgrade. I need more time to test it. But everything still works... 3G, Edge, Push Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, Apps, etc. It feels much more stable and zippier! Starting to feel like the original iPhone did after 1.4.x came out. Not sure about the battery life yet.

I don't like how they tweaked the "bars" indicator to make it appear that you have a better signal! As soon as you tap to see your dBm signal is real easy to figure this one out! Wow.

Overall... its an improvement and Apple is on the right track.

Thanks,
Doug

Well, the movie trailer (AKA Steve's keynote speech) promised me something that wasn't delivered.

Perhaps you need to direct your critique to the director, not the audience. 😉

Look, don't get me wrong, I love the iPhone's interface and many other features, but to call it the ultimate business tool but lack in so many business features just sticks in my gut, that's all.

I don't think you should be aiming your guns at me on this issue.

Cheers,
Pete

**THE GOOD**
2.1 Installed flawlessly (I backed up first this time after 2.02 made me lose my changes from my previous back up).
Back-up and sync are remarkably quicker.
My phone seems to have a 3G signal more often and stronger than the past.
Apps do seem to download quicker.
My Contacts are virtually instantaneous to find.

*THE BAD*
My battery doesn't seem to last any longer.
Google Maps confused Midtown Manhattan with George Bush International Airport.
My AOL Mail does not load any faster than before (and that's really sloooooooooooow).

*THE UGLY*
I missed half a dozen calls today with a full 3G signal (it sent them straight to VM).
It took me over 10 minutes to get a signal in Manhattan once I exited the Subway at 40th and Sixth Ave (I went to Airplane Mode three times and back before I finally got a signal).
My office Wi-Fi interfered with texting. I had to shut it off on my phone if not texts would stall before exiting (my friend in the office has the same phone and software and had the exact same problem).

And this is just day one.
I hope this helps people who have been experiencing similar problems and for Apple to continue to work on fixes ASAP.
Cheers!
Roberto

My iPhone seems to work alot better now after the 2.1 update. It backs up quicker SMS is alot faster get 5 bars now. Only concern is I did a field test on my phone it tells me my range is -99 or -101 dbm not very good but still have 5 bars but the true test will be that I haven't did yet is to call some one if the calls drop. But I do like that if am not in the 3g area it turns to edge quickly no more square box with a dot in the middle just a bold E . Data is fast to I am alot more happier now but still can be better but one thing at a time. Thanks Steve for the update.

I am very happy with the 2.1 update. I waited until about two hours ago to load 2.1 after monitoring most of the discussions on the update before proceeding with cautious optimism. Well, I have to say, the results are very good. I didn't uninstall any applications first (I only have about a dozen); the pre-update backup took about 10 minutes, then it took all of 2 to 3 minutes to install 2.1 and restart. Since installing 2.1 update, here is what I have noticed:

The GOOD (+):

1. Backup now takes about 1 minute.
2. Battery life is much improved at least when browsing the internet, under WIFI and 3G so far. Before a half hour of WIFI actively browsing would take the battery down about 1/4 and and hour of 3G browsing would do the same. I have done each(1/2 h on WIFI and 1 hour on 3G) and have not seen my battery drain at all.
3. I am now consistently getting 5 bars on 3G in my home in the shadow of a mountain where before I only got 2-3 bars max.
4. 2.1 fixes the Passcode Lock Security Hole and Backdoor entirely. Unless there is another backdooor we don't yet know about, it seems can't get into the iPhone without the actual Passcode.
5. I don't seem to be having the 3G GPS location lock problem in Google maps that some are reporting. In fact, GPS locks in right away and works while I'm moving, just like before but even faster.
6. App switching and application performance appears to be faster than before.
7. Before 2.1 and after the 2.02 update, I could no longer receive/hear my Visual voicemails via my Bluetooth headset. I could before 2.02, and this problem seemed to be there on two different BT headsets from different manufacturers. Now, Visual Voicemail works on my BT headset as it did before and I did not even have to Re-Pair the headset to the phone. This is a big plus after an annoying inconvenience.

The BAD (-):
I am still having some problems with updates to applications installing via sync to Tunes. I got a weird error message in iTunes. After searching the support site, it seems Apple recommends removing and reinstalling these applications. A bit of a pain, but acceptable given all the positive improvements.

I'm happy with the 2.1 Update, and yes I would be truly happier if it included "Copy and Paste," but I've been living without them for so long that I've grown weary of hoping it will come in the next update. I just wonder why Apple hasn't identified this as more of a priority?

Happy with 2.1 Update
