Happy with 2.1 Update

Well, I for one am very happy with the 2.1 update. AT&T provides me with weak 3g coverage at my home even before the 2.01 update. While my 3G coverage from ATT is not any better, the iPhone does a much better job of hanging on to the signal than 2.02 did. I no longer drop calls when I am sitting in my living room. Battery life seems better to. Usually after 8 hours of use i am down a 1/4, it is still showing a full charge.

Hello The Cuppingmaster ,

Tap on Phone > Keyboard > and enter star3001#12345#star (do not type in star, but tap on the "*") > Call. You are now in the Field Test mode. Notice that your Cell Signal has now changed to numbers.

These numbers are your dBm signal. To keep these numbers active on your phone, press and hold the Home button for 3-5 seconds, and release the Home button.

I would not recommend changing any setting here! Then, simply tap on the “Cell Signal” to switch between dBm and bars. Or, drag your finger over the cell signal indicator from bottom to top.

Thanks,
Doug

Well now that so many of us feel the 2.1 cleaned up a lot of problems what do you think that AT&T did to make 3G better?

I do not remember getting any update from AT&T. Same signal, etc.

Well the 2.1 update has been good for me. But now Att is crapping out again. Earlier today and yesterday I was getting very good (400-1000Kbps) data speed. This evening I still show 4-5 bars, but my data speed has dropped to 75-156 Kbps.
Oh well, I had my hopes up for a little while, but I guess a software update can't fix underpowered infrastructure.

Overall, the performance and features introduced in iPhone 2.1 are impressive. I am especially enjoying the fast response times and overall performance.

My only complaints:
-Still dropping some calls (not nearly as many)
-Battery life is just not there

Overall good work Apple. I look forward to more enhancements with the next update.

Good question. Was it ATT? Was it the software? Was it both? Will not know. It works for me now and as the iPhone was my tether to my clients it makes me feel secure in knowing its all resolved for ME anyway.

I think those that are having continued issues may have faulty phones or are in areas that may need a tweak or two.

In general it looks like its all going well now.

Well, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Since day one (August 12th for me) I've had almost zero problems with my iPhone 3G. I've updated everytime a new version came out and each time I've seen improvements. Yeah, I dropped a few calls in the first week or so but since then almost none. After 2.1 I've noticed dramatically improved battery life (not sure how they helped hardware with software), much faster and more accurate GPS, unbelieveably faster backups, faster app installs, slightly faster startup of Contacts, etc. Maybe there are more like me out there and just not voicing it. Yes, I know I'm on a forum for people with problems and I feel bad for all of you out there. Hang in there, once you get it all working I think you'll be glad you stuck with it.

Don't hate guys i must be a lucky 1 too. had my iPhone since day 1. (waited in line for 3 hours -it was worth it)
no probs at all. but maybe i'm not so lucky. i think some of you need to take a step backward and you might realize how awesome this phone is. yeah i now what is this noob talking about...... i've owned 3 dif RAZR's in the last 2 years with many problems and no updates whatsoever a big fat 0. yup it's official motorola throw in the towel you are done. 3 updates in 3 months, keep em coming Steve i love them all. so just when you start thinking negative thoughts about the iphone, pop your sim out and pop it in a non-iphone for a week(bet you won't last a day)you'll see the light(the light of the iphone's beautiful touch screen). i do have a single gripe. i wouldn't be human if i didn't have 1- no MMS, throw that in the next update and i'll marry my iPhone.

Steve Job's for president(yeah who's with me?)

Happy with 2.1 Update
