I have the same problem. "Disc burner or software not found"
Currently running 8.0.1

I read that going to an earlier version might help.
Here is a website with earlier versions:
http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm

1. What previous version should I use? 7.6.2.9?

2. How do I remove/uninstall 8.0.1 while still preserving all my audio files and podcast settings? And have them all restored when I install the earlier version?

Thanks?

Hi Stillerfan -

thanks for the suggestion. I tried going to the earlier versions of iTunes as available. Unfortunately, because my library was created out of the most recent version 8.0.1, the older versions couldn't read or import the library.

Unless there is a way to revert the library files to the old format, it looks like the only way to go is forward, not backward. That won't be until Apple releases another upgrade, I guess.

I'm going to see if there is anything on the horizen. Meanwhile, thanks to everyone who is searching out fixes and sharing info. At least I know I'm not alone it this, small comfort though it is!

I'm on a 32-bit Vista pc with 8.0.1 installed. I did have Daemon Tools installed and tried the SPTD update with no luck. Then I uninstalled DT and manually removed all registry entries, then ran RegCleaner to remove any stray entries- still no luck. Still getting the dreaded "Disc Burner or Software not found" error. Apple needs to develop a way to slipstream hotfixes into iTunes without requiring a full update every 3-4 months.

I found out a way to get rid of this "The registry settings used by iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes.", but when I do get rid of that my CD/DVD Drive disappears so I can't burn any music. I imported CDs fine yesterday just can't burn them

Had the same problem. Got hold of a tech in Canada called "DJ" who knew his stuff. The problem is a driver with a bug in it. Gearsoftware does the drivers for Apple. They have fixed the bug & I'm up and burning. Go to URL gearsoftware.com. Halfway down the page is a box with two drivers in it. The Driver X86...X64 download and install. This will fix the bug.
