Has anyone that has been able to get itunes working with the gearsoft driver like i have been able to burn a dvd-r in other software like nero. I have lost the ability to burn dvd video's in all my other software since the last update of itunes i have tried all kinds of different burning programs with no luck and two different drives and different media. I have uninstalled the programs and reinstalled with no luck. Itunes is working fine now since downloading the gearsoft driver from the website. I can burn cdr media and read dvd's but not burn dvd-r it error's out.

The first time i ran it i don't remember it asking me i would just first trying to click repair and see what happens also make sure you have this registry key in your registry here is a apply support artical. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2615
By doing both of these i was able to get itunes back to burning cd's but i still can't get my other burning software to burn dvd -r's even if i uninstall and reinstall those programs. It must be a problem with the gearsoft driver. Anybody else have this problem. I have tryed nero and igmburn.

Yes! Thanks to all above for your help. I tried editing the registry settings as Apple recommends for Windows XP at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2372 but didn't have any lower or upper filters to delete or modify respectively. So, dead end there. However, I then tried downloading the GearSoftware Driver Installerx86x64.exe under the Drivers Downloads tab on this page: http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.php I downloaded the file, ran it, and restarted my computer when given the prompt at the end (I was not asked whether to modify, repair etc.). Low and behold, when I restarted my computer and opened itunes (version 8.0.2.20), I did not get the error message and when I clicked Burn CD for one of my playlists, the software recognized my disc drive and I was able to burn a CD! Haaaa-le-lu-jiah!

I don't have the time - or patience =] - to read threw all these threads, so I'm just going to answer the original question... I may have your answer.... no really! Assuming that you are running the newest upgrade of iTunes and Quicktime (which seems to be the issue that even if rolled back doesn't fix the prob) - I have had this problem myself (along with a million others) and have been reading of people trying EVERYTHING under the sun with no avail. I came across this in another forum and am now on a mission to spread the word! If you are willing to edit your registry files it will most likely fix it (know that if you delete something that you shouldn't you could leave your computer inoperable). I'm not a techi in any way, but I did it, and it WORKED!!! Here's the same exact info. that I received and good luck to you all

I can now re-create the "I tunes not recognizing any burning software" issue at will, and fix it in a heartbeat. This will also take care of that "Itunes registry values....." message that pops up right before the main i Tunes program begins.

IT APPEARS THAT WHEN GEARAspiWDM GETS INSTALLED IT DOES NOT CREATE A "MULTI-STRING VALUE", IT CREATES A "STRING VALUE", WHICH DONT DO NO GOOD. THE UPPERFILTERS VALUE MUST BE A MULTI STRING VALUE, JUST NOT A "STRING VALUE".

1. Download the latest gear driver at:

http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.cfm

2. Once that is installed you have to DELETE the UPPERFILTERS entry in your system registry, AND CREATE A NEW UPPERFILTERS VALUE at:

HKEY LOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 (of course you knew once you get there just click on "favorites" in your system registry and add it your favorites).
________________________________________________________
YOU WILL BE DELETING THE UPPER VALUE: DONT WORRY YOU WILL BE CREATING A NEW ONE. ________________________________________________________
GO HERE IN THE SYSTEM REGISTRY (if you're unfamiliar where this is, go to your "run" and type in "regedit" and hit enter. Then you'll click on each of the headings and subheadings listed here):

HKEY LOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318

FIND THE "UPPERFILTERS" VALUE AND DELETE IT!

1. WHILE IN HKEY LOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 using the system registry editor: EDIT > NEW > MULTI STRING VALUE. IT MUST BE A "Multi String Value".

2. NAME IT "UpperFilters".

3. Once it's created and named, right click on it and select "Modify".

4. Enter this into the box that will pop up: GEARAspiWDM AS SOON AS YOU TYPE THE GEARAspiWDM PRESS ENTER. This "carriage return" is required. Make sure you hit the OK button below (I have Vista)

THE VALUE FOR THE UpperFilters should be: REG MULTISZ (Which means it is a multi string value).

5. REBOOT

6. TADAA!"

The gearsoft drivers fixed my iTunes. I am using the latest iTunes and didn't have this issue until last night when I removed Norton Anti Virus from my PC using the Norton removal tool. Norton, like iTunes uses the same drivers for its backup and restore software. So when I removed it with Norton removal tool, it took those drivers with it. Thank you for fixing my issue.

I see that I am not alone with this problem. I had full function before the upgrade and now my PC and my iMac tell me that no cd/dvd drivers are available? Admittedly I have an older Mac and until now it was still a favorite. any ETA on a fix? My pc has Windows XP home edition and the mac has os 10.4.11. Any ideas? I miss the function of being able to burn cd's or import my cd collection to my iPod. Is there another program out there that allows you to import to an Ipod without iTunes? Might be time to give up my loyalty here.
