iPod cuts off in the middle of SOME songs

When playing my iPod, it cuts off in the middle of certain songs, and skips to the next songs. Some songs it won't play at all.

These songs all play in their entirety in iTunes.

Any idea what's causing this/how to fix it?

I have same issue too. From reading other observations it seems there is a common fault in that the IPOD Classic would randomly pause a track for a couple of seconds before proceeding normally. Apparently the fault and it is a fault is attributed to the IPOD cache being too small.

Also, I've discovered another fault where one song refuses to play but plays fine using iTunes

To be clear, I have a 160 GB (purchased last month), my brother has an 80 GB (purchased last year) and his girlfriend has an 80 GB (purchased last Christmas) and we all share the same library. We are all having the same issue, each with different songs, however. On the other hand, I have an older 60 GB iPod (purchased just before iPods could play videos) and this iPod does NOT have this problem.

We've tried re-synching, restoring, all to no avail.

I have the same issue - random songs skipping in the middle of the song (at various durations into the song) to the next track. Sometimes if I return to the song and fast forward through that spot it will play the entire song, but not always. Sometimes it skips again at a later point of the same song.

I have reset and resynced and tried to sync in small portions, slowly adding songs back in. None of the issues are solved by these actions. I'm up to date with the software and firmware. I just got V8 of iTunes but have not resynced since then. It's obviously a flaw they do not intend to address.

I have the same problem...
This is extremely annoying especially when you're playing albums in full; I hope Apple will fix this in a later update.

It seems to happen not only to "some" songs, but basically all the time... at least twice per day. I have all my audio in "apple lossless" (alac) so it could be that the cache is smaller than it should be

Hi Y'all...I found this post while searching for the same problem you're having, songs cutting off early. I called Apple Tech support and told the tech the problem and that I didn't think my IPOD classic was broken but asked him if there is a setting to adjust the play time. He told me that there is but the ipod has to be connected to Itunes. From there you highlight the song, in fact you can select all the songs on the ipod to do a global change. Next right-click (for you PC users) and select Get Info then Options. From there he said there is an option for Start Time/Stop Time. He said uncheck those boxes or you can set the time. I never want to set the song time, so I'm going to uncheck it. I'm at work now but when I get home I'll try it. I think it'll work.

Very Similar problem here, too:

I recently began updating my old files (replacing them with completely new files). I did this by deleting the old file completely (outside of itunes) so that the link for the song in itunes would be saved (therefore saving the song's playcount, date added, etc). I then double clicked the link and itunes promted me to go find the missing (deleted) file. At this point I went in and chose the new UPDATED file. The new song plays great in itunes via the old link. The problem comes in when I sync my ipod. The new files are much larger, so they stop playing about midway through the song on the ipod. I don't know the exact mechanism of this, but I believe the ipod only plays the song through to the same point of KBs as the old song had. So, there is my problem. Not sure if it might be related to yours. Can anyone out there help me?!?! HOW TO GET THE UPDATED VERSION OF A SONG TO PLAY THROUGH ON MY IPOD, ALL THE WHILE KEEPING THE STORED LINK IN ITUNES THE SAME?!

I think you are having a similar problem. However, I don't think your ipod is "playing to the same KB." I think it's a glitch in Apple's software.

A way to test this is to add one of the new songs to another location (outside of iTunes) and then add it to iTunes. This way it should have nothing to do with the old song. Then see if the new song still cuts off in the middle of the song. I suspect it will.

You are definately right. When I add the new song seperately (thereby creating a new link in my itunes library), the song play beautifuly on my ipod.

The problem with that is that I would lose all of the information (play count, date added, etc) that is stored in the old link.

So, apparently you are right. There is a software problem here. Lets hope that a fix/solution comes soon!

All the songs from the last few albums I put on my ipod classic cut off early, usually with about 30 seconds. This is odd since all the songs play in full in Itunes and on my newer Ipod Touch. I restored my ipod and reloaded my entire library, and the problem lingers. To me, this suggests the problem is with the ipod classic, anyone have any idea which settings I could tinker with to fix this problem?
