Anyone used a Nano 4th gen with a Bose SoundDock?

I hope to buy a 16Gig Nano to replace my aging 3G as soon as my local store has them in stock. I talked to a sales person yesterday and he assured me that a new Nano would charge with me Bose SoundDock but after reading posts regarding charging issues with the new Touch I'm understandably concerned.

Has anyone charged their new Nano with a SoundDock? Mine is an older unit with the volume controls on either side of the dock connector. I guess I could just take it to the store with me and verify it works. They did have a SoundDock in the store but it's a somewhat different design.

Thanks.

You can wait until, or if, someone creates an adaptor (there is a link if you search for it for a company that is reportedly going to have one, and currently has a "beta"), you can buy new equipment (my Altec Lansing inMotion (the original) broke during my last trip, a speaker wire broke) so I bought the Logitech PureFi Anywhere 2. It does charge and sounds good for a portable device.) I also have the B&W Zeppelin which charges my 3G iPhone (it does give the go to Airplane mode message, the Logitech does not). My BMW cable does not charge the iPhone, I'll have to wait for an update.

It was only a matter of time before Apple stopped charging on the iPhone pin and they supposedly notified vendors of the change.

I have the 8gb 4th generation ipod nano and I've also got a Klipsch iGroove SXT, it will play but it won't charge. Someone else that I work with is running into ht same problem, and they've got a Logitech dock for it. So, chances are...the Bose sound dock won't work either.

Hopefully they'll come out with a patch for it because it really is a pain since that's mainly the way I keep my ipods charged.

I am more then a little ****** that I have no way to charge my Ipod in a number of situations now. This seems like a pretty crappy corner to cut, purely to save cost/size and surprise sell all new accessories. What really bugs me is that means across the entire ecosystem on devices that cost anywhere between $20 and $2,000 a new Ipod is less compatible. For years my Alpine head unit in my car worked with all my Ipods great, and my Ipod was charged on the way to where I was going ready to go when I arrived. Now docking my Ipod in any situation for countless apple accessories is draining my battery and at the same time prevents me any method of charging it at the same time.

Prior to buying my new nano about 2 weeks ago, I read on ilounge.com that the Bose Sound Dock would not charge it. I then went into TWO Apple stores to ask the question and SIX different "geniuses" assured me that it would charge. Well, finally tried it this a.m. and they were wrong.
I can't believe Apple is not even educating their own employees that this is an issue.

Perhaps you didn't word your question properly. The current version of the Bose Soundock "portable" and the Bose Sounddock II both support the new generation of ipods and iphones. The genii know that. But if you simply ask whether the Bose Sounddock works with the new iPod, what answer are they supposed to give you? They should ask you which Sounddock you have. I have had a Bose Sounddock Portable for 7 months. It perfectly charges my two 4th generation nanos and my iPhone 3G. So, it would be unfair to say that the Bose Sounddock doesn't work. It just depends on WHICH sounddock you're asking about.

well, they did not ask me which Sound Dock i was talking about, and why would I even know that there have been other types of SD's made since I was given mine as a gift less than 2 years ago ? They're the people customers are relying on for accurate sales info, I am merely some schlub who came in to buy a nano. I could almost understand if I had just asked one person, but literally six???

Here's what Bose has to say:

"Bose is aware that Apple® recently released new versions of the iPod® Touch (8GB, 16GB and 32GB), iPod Classic (120GB only) and iPod Nano (8GB and 16GB).

Previous versions of these iPods used a specific pin on the dock connector on the bottom of these iPods for charging purposes. The pin to charge these iPods was changed to a different pin with the introduction of these newer models mentioned above.

The Bose® SoundDock® was designed to charge iPod models which were designed to be charged via the older charging pin. The SoundDock will not charge these newer iPod models which charge via a different pin.

The newer model iPods will still play audio through the Bose SoundDock and the SoundDock remote will still control the iPod while it is docked, however, the SoundDock will not charge these iPods for the reasons noted above.

We are unaware of any plans which would allow the SoundDock to be modified to charge these newer model iPods in the future. We do not guarantee that a solution will be available in the future, but you are welcome to check with us in the future to see if a solution is available."
