Logic 8.02 Mac Pro TDM Digi 96 i/0 OSX 10.5.5 - HEEELP!!!

Anyone running Logic 8.02 in TDM successfully on a Mac Pro?

I've reinstalled and checked everything for months now!

Still no sound from EXS (TDMAux) or any Dtdm / ESB . .. only audio . .

Help!

same here, tryin also for months now to get dtdm (exs + esb) working. if i turn dtdm on, logic gets very slow and i will hear no sound from software instruments (dtdm)...

at the moment i use a DAE / CoreAudio combination to work with VIs.

i have also a magma chassis like you, but i don't think that's the problem.

hope this issue will be fixed with a new logic-update ?!?!

Yeah . . wow . . it's pathetic how they've abandoned TDM users!
I've been working professionally with Logic on Digi hardware for 12 years,
and have had nothing but problems the last year.
Can't go Native because of too many open projects and lack of backwards comp,
but it sure is tempting sometimes. .

So, out of all Logic users, we are the only ones still using TDM? 🙂

not really,

-the timing between DAE & CoreAudio isn't accurate,
-there are "ghost-files" (as described in anohter thread), they come and go
-at least once a week i have to start logic many times (i get the "kernel panicss"-screen when i open logic, or the message "tdm hardware not found"...- so i have to power off the mac, the magma and hope that after restart i can work)
-sometimes i open a project and get a grey color instead of the arrangement window and logic crashes (a few days ago i lost about 1 hour to reopen the project!!!! power off, restart, start logic, open project, crash, power off, restart and so on

i'm using the latest VI-versions (no incompatible)

REALLY FRUSTRATING, HOPE THAT APPLE WILL FOCUS ON TDM USERS TOO

Ok Gents! on to your thread, from mine.

With the Magma, do you still keep 1 Core card in the host computer?(with HD3 i have all cards inside my mac.)

Are you running SpotLight?(I have mine turned on on the main OS X HD, ad off on my Recording/Audio/Logic&Pro Tools Sessions.)

Are you using a dedicated, separate (from the OS) HD for ALL Recording/Audio/Logic&Pro Tools Sessions?

Have you tried removing ALL plugins from there normally kept folders, and booted? Keeping the plugins in a folder on your desktop? to see if they are interfering..

Read this it helped me understand what is happening technically.

Have you read though a followed the Logic Pro 8 TDM Guide located here and in your Logic app?
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/LogicPro_8_TDMGuide.pdf

Simple, but is you Logic Pro working fine with only Core Audio running? (no DAE & DTDM)

*Hi Dane. Great thanks for helping us!*

I'll answer your q's

+With the Magma, do you still keep 1 Core card in the host computer?(with HD3 i have all cards inside my mac.)+

Only Magma-card in computer (since it's PCI-Express) and all the (4) PT-cards (including core) in Magma. I have 1 HD Core, 1 HD Accel, 2 HD Process. All checks out "passed"

+Are you running SpotLight?(I have mine turned on on the main OS X HD, ad off on my Recording/Audio/Logic&Pro Tools Sessions.)+

Tried both.

+Are you using a dedicated, separate (from the OS) HD for ALL Recording/Audio/Logic&Pro Tools Sessions?+

Yes.

+Have you tried removing ALL plugins from there normally kept folders, and booted? Keeping the plugins in a folder on your desktop? to see if they are interfering..+

Yes. In addition, I've made 2 separate fresh Leopard PTLogic installations on 2 separate HD's, to be able to try different things . .

+Read this it helped me understand what is happening technically.+

Ok. I actually glanced at it . . but I'll read it again, thoroughly!

+Have you read though a followed the Logic Pro 8 TDM Guide located here and in your Logic app?+
+ http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/LogicPro_8_TDMGuide.pdf+

Yes. Very uninformative indeed. I must say, having been a Mac-freak since early '90s, Apple's support and documentation on possible and reported problems really *****. It feels like the TDM-crowd was abandoned the minute Apple bought Logic.

+Simple, but is you Logic Pro working fine with only Core Audio running? (no DAE & DTDM)+

Yes.

No. At the moment, I'm even using DAE exclusively (no DTDM) which seems to help reducing the horrible lag (even moving the pointer is slow when having DAE+DTDM active) and I do get some "sound" from EXS .. but only that horrible digital noise/distortion . . you know, the kind you sometimes get from DTDM-instruments on a working setup, but can be helped with different tricks . .

This noise/dist is way more though . . and alternates with silence . . a few seconds of noise to be followed by a few seconds of in-responsiveness . . and back . .

Graphics show that the whole system is having a tough time to . . with jerky indicators.

It seems like with:
DAE/DTDM active = Whole computer slow, no sound from anything but DAE Audio-channels.
Only DAE active = Computer faster (still graphic-jerks) and some noise/dist from AuxEXS

hi dane,

same answers like Kriller's

and

+When you say? "Still no sound from EXS (TDMAux) or any Dtdm / ESB . .. only audio ." Are you running DTDM & DAE & Core Audio at the same time? If so, don't use Core Audio at all.+

i'm not running DTDM & DAE & CoreAudio, only DAE&DTDM (like described in TDM Guide)

+Further more, are you seeing the mixing meters db levels move at all?+

i don't see any levels in the mixing meters (dtdm channels).

+Are you running Pro Tools HD 7.4.2cs1?+

yes

i used logic 8 with DAE&DTDM with my old G5 and tiger (no problems except the "ghost files")
since mac pro, leopard and magma issues started....

Hmm... seems to be a OS X software issue then, right?

This is in my Computer Info. :
