iTunes 8 Store connection issues

I know there have been a few posts about this, but I was curious as to whether or not there has been any developments on how to fix it. I had iTunes 7.6.. before 8 and I downloaded a couple songs from iTunes for the first time, went to download another song and it told me to update my iTunes, so I did, now I cannot open anything related to the Store( can't sign in, look at podcasts, etc.). I've tried everything I could think of to try to fix it, firewall, Internet pop-up blocker, Internet setting/security. I deleted iTunes from my computer and reloaded it a couple times, and once with the original iTunes cd I recieved with my iPod. I'm not so upset because I don't have the Store, but more because I spent $300+ on my iPod and I want good service from Apple. I'm also ticked because I can't figure out how to fix it, and I'm somewhat computer savvy. Please help!

It is working for me again after days of not being able to connect to the store.
I was having the same problem since downloading to the latest version iTunes 8. I kept getting the error message that I could not connect to the iTunes Store. I got an email back from Apple but they only told me to reinstall the latest version, which didn't solve the problem. Then I read somewhere to check personal firewalls to make sure they are allowing iTunes to connect. I have Norton and so I went in under Personal Firewall and clicked the configure button and it was blocking iTunes for some reason (it hadn't done that in the past)and so I switched it back to allow for iTunes and now it works just fine. I am able to get back onto the store again. Don't know if this is the issue everyone else has or not but that seemed to solve the problem for me.

I have the exact same problems that these people have about how they try to connect to iTunes and a error message appears "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again". Plus another time I got an error message for error 11222. Is Apple having a problem with iTunes or is it me? I've tried many times reinstalling the latest version of iTunes and cleared my DNS cache and I know i have a perfect connection to the internet because my cable modem is connected directly to my computer by an Ethernet cable (I think that's what it is). My Windows Firewall is NOT blocking iTunes from connecting and I dont have any other firewalls that I know of. What's going on?!

Okay, well after reading some recent posts I had (almost) restored faith. However I double checked my firewall for like the 5th time and it's definitely allowing itunes.

I'm going crazy not having my itunes. This is absolutely unbelievable that the issue STILL isn't resolved and I can't seem to talk to anyone who can fix it! I guess for now I'll keep checking my firewall, clearing the dns cache, re-installing itunes and re-booting my computer.

Insane, I tell you, In-sane.

Same here. Getting error -2096 - "Could not complete your iTunes Store request" when I try to log in. My Touch and MacBook work fine, the MacMini which I have always used for iTunes up to now won't connect.Uninstalled iTunes 8, installed 7 - same. Uninstalled 7 and re-installed 8 - same. Tried putting the Mac into DMZ on the router, no difference.

Sorry, should have posted in mac forum.

so, I have carried on in my quest to fix my itunes purchasing problems (involving someone in California aiding me only to be told at my 4th or 5th email that there's nothing more they can do to help so I will need to call them to get more support) and now i don't get an error message but I still can't download! It asks me to confirm my account details have changed so I press 'done' but then it just goes back to the itunes store page I began from and when I try to purchase again the whole scenario repeats itself. I feel like I'm in Groundhog Day or something. I am rapidly becoming disillusioned with iTunes Store!

Has anyone been getting this error message when attempting to open iTunes after uninstalling and reinstalling it for umpteenth millionth time?

Quick Time failed to initialize (error -2096)
Quick Time is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes

I have tried uninstalling QT before installing iTunes, installing iTunes and then installing QT, installing iTunes then uninstalling and reinstalling QT. If there are other combinations, I've tried those, too. I finally got my old Windows XP Pro computer back from the shop and it is running iTunes v8.0.0.35 just fine. When I first opened iTunes after getting it out of the shop, I was asked if I wanted to update my iTunes. Not only NO, but H--- NO!

Hi! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! I tried everything. I updated to version 8 and then couldn't connect to the iTunes store after that. I tried everything, flshdns, reboot, uninstall, reinstall itunes, remove itunes resinstall, rebooting a million times, connect directly with a cable to internet, checked windows firewall, updated java, quicktime, bonjour, safari, everything I could think of. Then I saw someone earlier said to check my Norton firewall settings but I didn't know what to look for.
But thanks to your post with explicit directions I knew exactly how to do check it. And after working on this since 7pm last night, its fixed!!!!! Only took 25 hours to figure it out.
THANKS again!!!! You made my family very happy!

Here's a fix suggested by Katrina S. that worked for me:

It's the same Norton fix idea...

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/0/7fb6e478e2a1abf78825708b00558625? OpenDocument&seg=hm&lg=en&ct=us

BUT with one VERY IMPORTANT nuance: Delete iTunes from the list of program rules and then add it back following the instructions in the link above.

I was stumped because I kept seeing iTunes in my list of "allowed" programs. But for some reason, when you delete it and then add it back in, it changes the way the system sees it and allows you to access the Store.

Worked for me...Thanks Katrina S.!

I upgraded to itunes 8 and the problems started. I was getting the network connection timed out error... and it was driving me mad! I reinstalled itunes about 8 times, I checked all firewalls, anti-virus, etc - in everything itunes was enabled. I didn't have Norton. The apple support team were awful.. still awaiting a response. I upgraded every piece of software available - nothing helped. It was so frustrating as when I ran diagnostics it was telling me I was connected. I could connect to ANY website elsewhere so it definitely wasn't my internet. I read on a tech forum (believe me I am not technical at all) about itunes 8 wiping out ethernets (still not sure what one of these is). However, I completed closed down my wifi router (turned it off for about a minute). Well actually couldn't locate my wifi router so turned off the main fuse which turned all the electrics in the house off! My machine rebooted and BAM... connected to the istore straight away.

Hope this helps others.
