ATV still not appearing as a device in iTunes after upgrade

Hate to beat a dead horse, but after upgrading to iTunes 8.1 and ATV 2.2, my ATV still does not appear in iTunes. I have had ATV for 2+ years and never had a problem with it until the last upgrade to iTunes 8.0 and ATV 2.1. I have been through every troubleshooting suggestion that I have seen, both in the forum and from Apple, but still nothing. My ATV is connected to my network (wirelessly through an Actiontec wireless DSL modem), I can still rent and buy movies, etc. But ATV does not show up as a device, or under preferences/ATV. And unfortunately, as one of the troubleshooting suggestions is to do a factory restore, all my content has been wiped off of my ATV. So now I have a very expensive and white, hot Blockbuster card.

Any further suggestions out there to solve this problem?

I have the same issue. Just brought home ATV today from new Apple store in Calgary. Running 2.1 out of the box, with itunes 8.0.1 on my iMac (10.4.11). Couldn't get the ATV to appear in itunes. ATV gets out to itunes store so I know it is on the network. Ping to the IP of ATV works fine as well. Upgraded ATV to 2.2 with no improvement.

Ran through all of the 'suggestions' the Apple support site for ATV. Really looks to me that there is a fleeting h/w issue with the ATV as not everyone is seeing this issue.

The ATV is going back to the store tomorrow in exchange for a Mini, no messing around.

Unless Apple posts a fix overnight....

I am struggling too but right out of the box. I bought the ATV yesterday so is the latest version and also downloaded latest iTunes but it fails to recognise my ATV as a device. If i can't sync with between the PC and the ATV, it has to go back and i will be dissapointed. PLEASE ANY SUGGESTIONS... FROM ANYWHERE ATV easily finds the iStore and YouTube and everything but fails to see the PC. I've pinged the IP, turned off the firewall and have seen that my Dlink router can find the ATV. Sony care claims its a blocked port on the router. Would Drain-O work for that? Anyone? Anyone?
