Melissa:
A few important points were raised here. Seems the scratching is the biggest issue for the Nano, and some people seem to think there will be a version 2 on the market soon.
I have an iPod, which I love dearly, but since I use iTunes in my home Mac, connected to a serious system, I don't need to have a 20 GB ipod. I borrowed a friend's Mini and it is better in terms of size, but I like you, am watching to see what happens with the Nano.
The following link says the Nano is durable, but does not say much about the plastic scratching issue. If you check this link you will see it is a very solid product:

This is part of the screen scratch debate on Mac, and the first reply to this post worries me. Post 366.1, it may make you think about waiting until the screen scratch issue is resolved. I really hope Apple has not made a conscientious decision to use an inferior plastic or coating on this model in hopes of selling more.

As you can see the Nano with its Flash Memory (NO Moving Parts) seems to be a great product if you dont need the space. For me, I use my constantly updating playlists to juggle my tunes with. Let me know your choice, and I will let you know how mine goes.
Lastly, from all of the posts and articles Ive been reading. Buy a white one. Less scratches. Although I want a black one.
