Itunes 8.0 will not burn cd

I have, unfortunately, updated my itunes software to 8.0, the newest version. I have an HP running Vista. I have installed all Windows updates. I have tested my cd drive by burning a cd using Roxio software. But, Itunes will not burn a cd, it states it is burning it, and the cd drive whirs and acts like it is burning, but the disc is blank. I have even pulled it out and burned something on the disc on another computer. So, the disc was good too! Can anyone help me with this issue, or is Apple working on it?

Thanks!

I found that a repair installation of iTunes does not fix the registry problems associated with recognizing audio CDs. I ended up OK editing the registry by hand using the tips in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2372?viewlocale=en_US. The following appies to Windows XP. Note that following this tip will disable 3rd party burning software like Nero, so be sure to export the registry key to a safe location like My Documents as recommended in the support article, so that you can undo the edits just by clicking on the export file. If you don't have an UpperFilters key you need to create one, a new multi-string value, and the name is case sensitive. For the value type GEARAspiWDM and press Return (as part of the value), then OK. You may be OK just adding GEARAspiWDM as the first line of your existing UpperFilters key. In the General tab of iTunes preferences, click on "Import Settings" and make sure "Use error correction when Reading Audio CDs" is unchecked. Good luck.

Sorry I know I am replying to my own post and I can kind of work around it but has anyone solved the problem yet? Mine is that it los like iTunes does the burn as normal except I still end up with a blank dic after it. To all extent and purposes the burn seems to work as normal but then nothing on the cd! Only happened since upgrading to iTunes 8 last week and since this uograde even my roxio has been erratic. Has anyone fixed this issue, it's blatantly a problem Apple have created!!!

I had hoped the new download for iTunes that popped up today might have fixed the won't-burn-CDs-option. Alas, same old message from diagnostics:

Seriously - is this EVER going to be fixed? Without me having to completely uninstall everything related to iTunes and Gear drivers, then reinstalling them all? Why doesn't it just WORK for goodness sake?

This problem is driving me up the wall, I do feel that Apple / itunes are taking money under false pretences as we are unable to carryout all of which they are agreeing to, by us purchasing the songs we should by rights carryout all of which we are aloud to do ie. burn to disk for us in the car etc..
Apple should get this sorted out or I can see many of us turning to something that is supported better and will get reaponses to there quries, really we are the customer.

Same problems with my laptop running windows vista. No errors just won't burn, asks me to insert media and then says checking media and then nothing happens. Tried unchecking "include text" but still does not work. Worked perfectly prior to 8.0 upgrade.

I also have a MAC issue with 8.0. I can burn CDs but "include text" is greyed out with no way to check the box, so I do not get track names when I play the CDs in my car.

Clearly, itunes 8.0 has screwed up the burning CD features for MACs and PCs.

I've personally read every help article from Apple. I would like to suggest to everyone that they compose a very short and nice letter to Steve Jobs at Apple and snailmail it to corporate headquarters. Let them know this is going to cost them in sales if they don't fix this. There are some missing drivers in the new program to blame discussed elswhere on this forum.

There are many, many posts here (is there some way to consolidate them?) and on about Page 3 of this Forum there is a possible fix.

I also had these problems, and the main culprit was that iTunes Version 8 (for some people) failed to install a Gear driver. The folder is there on your computer, it just failed to launch.

Denali_uk posted this fix about 5 days ago, but here's the basic details. It has worked for me, so it may be worth a try?? You don't need to uninstall or reinstall iTunes - just shut iTunes down and following these steps:

1) Navigate to C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data and look for an alphanumerically named folder containing an 'x86' subfolder. Mine was called {3276BE95 AF08_429F_A64FCA64CB79BCF6} but it might change from system to system.

NOTE - you may need to do an advanced search for hidden folders - this is a hidden folder, so the basic search won't find it. Look for "star x86 star dot star" - I'd use the little asterix thing, but on this forum posting it changes the font to bold type.

2) Copy this folder to the Desktop.

3) Open the copied folder on the Desktop, open the x86 sub-folder, right-click the GearAspiWDM.inf (Setup Information) file and choose Install.

Nothing will happen - but that's OK.

4) Shut down and restart.

5) Run iTunes and hope that the drivers have installed correctly.

As I said, it worked for me - so good luck and find that nasty little x86 folder to get that Gear driver to install.
