Itunes 8.0 will not burn cd

I have, unfortunately, updated my itunes software to 8.0, the newest version. I have an HP running Vista. I have installed all Windows updates. I have tested my cd drive by burning a cd using Roxio software. But, Itunes will not burn a cd, it states it is burning it, and the cd drive whirs and acts like it is burning, but the disc is blank. I have even pulled it out and burned something on the disc on another computer. So, the disc was good too! Can anyone help me with this issue, or is Apple working on it?

Thanks!

I found the x86 folder installed the driver and it worked for me for one burn. I was so excited, I could not contain myself after months of no burning...I just did an experiment and only did one song..figured it worked and did a 15 song cd which went on to do the same thing. Went through all the motions and it did not work again...Back to square one. I have so many I-tunes songs, but I want to listen to them in my car, not sit at the computer with headphones. I am so disgusted that I plan to repurchase the music elsewhere and forget about I-tunes for good. I want to burn the music that I PAID for and no one at I-tunes will help!!!

Thanks tikihaha for offering suggestions/fixes.

This didn't help me. I did it twice, nothing. Then again, I've not had problems burning audio cd's in iTunes 8. I just can't back up anything to disk (data disk on DVD). I'm scared I'm going to lose stuff if I can't re-back everything up (haven't done it for a year or two). I've been able to do it once in about 15 tries.

It also ***** because videos take up so much space...you have to occasionally delete a video to have enough room on your iPod to add another. Well that's fine and dandy if I already have the video backed up to disk (I deleted "The Punisher" last night so I could download "The Dark Knight"). If not....UGH!!

I hope iTunes next version (8.0.3? or whatever) has this fixed. VERY annoying. Spending lots of $$ in the iTunes store, don't want to lose my stuff. None of us do!!

I HAVE iTUNES 8 AND HAVEN'T HAD THIS PROBLEM AT ALL.

In fact, I burned about four CDs Thursday. My problem is that iTunes won't burn MP3 CDs. I can put audio files on disc all day long but it just won't let me do MP3s of songs from CDs that I imported.

I'm thinking of downloading FreeRIP or something like that. Will that help?

It's the dang burn speed!!!!!!!!!!

I was completely baffled when I went to burn a CD and got Device Not Recognized on my iMac G5 after I upgraded to iTunes 8. After much frustration and confusion I read somewhere that maybe the burn speed is what caused it all. I looked for the Advanced>>Burn settings and found out that there was no tab anymore (it now just comes up each time when you burn a playlist). Well it was setting to "Maximum Possible" which is what always worked before. Apparently iTunes 8 has a problem recognizing the maximum speed to my internal SuperDrive (probably because I haven't switched over to macintel yet).

Anyway, retried it this time with 4x and now it is writing beautifully. It is a strange error though that gives you no clue about what the issue is. At least apple could make their dialog boxes a little more helpful.

I too have this problem. I have spoken with 3 levels of support within Apple and tried all suggestions given in the forum (uncheck cd text, edit registry, reload drivers vis x86 folder, etc. None of them have worked for me.

Hopefully Apple will respond to this issue with version 8 soon, but I question that since their representatives within support did not give me any of the forum suggestions as possible solutions.

VERY FRUSTRATING!

I cannot take credit for this if it works because after hours of searching I found it in another post. My issue was the same as others.Itunes acted as though it wanted to burn but would not. I found someone on a site who stated that you cannot burn more than 5 cd's off any one play list. I broke my playlists down to about 100 songs per and it is working like a charm. how hard would it have been for Apple to have a pop up that stated this fact while you were trying to burn?

*THIS WORKED FOR ME* I think...

I had been baffled by this "No Disc Burner or Software" issue since iTunes 8, and was unable to burn from within iTunes. I tried all the other fixes (STPD, new drivers, etc.), but got zero results.
I installed the latest GEAR drivers, but it did nothing. I STILL was getting no option to switch burners (I have two), and no option to include text or anything like that.
Then I manually installed the GEAR drivers (as described above) and, without even re-starting the computer OR iTunes, all those options re-appeared. Seriously, it was scary when the CD drive opened.

I ALSO messed around with the burn speed, but I don't think that did it.

Keeping my fingers crossed - good luck!

+I found someone on a site who stated that you cannot burn more than 5 cd's off any one play list.+

Actually it is 7 times - that' the limit for burning a specific playlist. Change just one song, and you can burn that updated playlist another 7 times. Although why you'd want 7 duplicate CDs, I don't know.

And here is some general burning troubleshooting advice from Apple. I had some cheap blank CDs and they didn't work. Brand name ones, did.
