Mini DisplayPort to HDMI

Are they going to make this adapter? I know some TVs coming out do not have VGA or DVI, only HDMI now, so is apple going to make this adapter or will we need to buy the displayport adapter to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI adapter as well?

I ran into this too. After receiving my TOSlink cable today I realized that the optical port on my Vizio is an out. DOH!! I had a 3.5MM headphone plug to RCA cable that works just fine though. Also, my issue with apple's mini displayport to DVI adapter and DVI to HDMI cable was recitfied by a monoprice mini displayport to HDMI adapter and a plain old HDMI cable along with above mentioned audio cable.

Is there any benefit to having a:

Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter + HDMI cable, 3.5mm to RCA for audio

rather than

Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter + DVI->HDMI cable, 3.5mm to RCA for audio

when hooking up a MacBook to a HDTV? I'm asking because I already have the DVI adapter. Does anyone know if the macbook will be supporting sound through the MDP anytime soon? Is it simply a firmware upgrade, or is the wiring not set out right?

Thanks!!

To reverberate, I said 'no benefit'. I don't consider HDCP a benefit but an annoying hindrance with the main purpose of frustrating end users.

I was also speaking purely in terms of video quality/signal.

That being said, I've read that HDCP is broken with the MDP, DVI, and of course VGA (because it's analog) on the full Mac lineup. Not something I'd ever know first hand, because I'd never purchase iTunes HDCP content.

Hi again,

I just got my cables and whatnot, and I had no problem getting the picture to come through, but the audio isn't working. My Aquos seems to accept RCA for its HDMI input 5, but when I plug in the RCA cables to the TV and the converter into the headphone jack, nothing happens. Do I need to change a setting on my TV and/or computer? Or am I just doing something stupid? Help!

Wow... i can't believe there isn't an acceptable Apple solution to this issue yet.
I've read this entire thread and many others all over the net. I'm an avid HTPC user, and long time mac user. I was looking forward to getting a new Mac mini for my new setup but wanted to wait for the adapters to be released to confirm or quell my fears. This whole mini-DP fiasco is the final straw.
First off, TOSLINK supports SPDIF, no HD audio streams or 7.1 so for my purposes it wont do.

It's unfortunate that Apple is dropping the ball with this new interface, trying to think ahead while ignoring/leaving such a critical component missing. Hopefully this can be resolved through a software update, until then... no Mac mini for me.

I recently purchased a 15" unibody and with it ordered a MiniDP -> DVI Adapter. I separately purchased a DVI ->HDMI cable and hooked it up to a 22" HD LCD Television. The resolution was set at 1080i but picture quality was nowhere near that of my older 15" MBP on a VGA output at 1680x1050.

I also tried out the MiniDP -> HDMI adapter from Monoprice and an HDMI cable but am having exactly the same issues. Also a trial of a third party resolution manager was unsuccessful.

For the moment I am back to VGA but I am having some difficulties understanding why I'm having these issues.

If anyone could clarify I would be grateful, if only to satisfy my curiosity!

Thanks
