Unstable after RAM upgrade

I installed 4GB of Patriot RAM from Fry's. The specs are:

2 x 2GB, DDR3 PC3 8500

Model: PSD34G1066SK

This is the same set at newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220338&Tpk=psd34G1066SK

During various operations, including SuperDuper, downloading files and watching YouTube, the machine froze and I had to restart by holding down the power button.

I've run memtestosx in single user mode and it didn't turn up any issues.

Should I return the RAM and get a replacement set? Should I go with a different brand?

Thoughts?

I tried OWC 4GB kit and it locked up 3 times in two days. I called the Apple Store that I bought the laptop from and they said since it was within the 14 days of purchase, I could get the "upgrade" price of $150. So I take my 1/2 an hour to drive down there and the "specialist" tells me I have to pay the full $300!! Those of you who were able to bring your computer back and get new memory are lucky because my Apple Store wouldn't do it? Anyone know how to complain about the retail stores?

I too bought the Patriot ram @ FRY's... After months of thinking I had bought a lemon, I found 3mb worked fine. I just didn't like the uneven ram in the macbook and decided to try once again... I ordered the RAMJET memory 2x2gb for a crazy low 68$ and $6 shipping. And have been up without ANY freezing for 2 weeks now! What I noticed was the Patriot ram had said it was 1066Mhz DDR3... on my about my mac info screen, located by clicking the apple on the top left of the macbook. When I installed my new RAMJET sticks, the memory was reading 1067 MHz DDR3. could this be the issue? The stock kit is 2gb @ 1067Mhz.

I have noticed a little warmer running conditions, but well worth the extra speedy performance, with 4gb.

Could this freezing issue be this easy? could the hours I have spent on the phone with mac tech's been this much of a waste? Just find RAM with a true 1067 MHz or drop the 68$ for the RAMJET sticks? I personally thought this was a mac issue with a firmware update.... but it seems the DDR3 format is that new and the new alum macbooks crave the 1067MHz chipset....

I've experienced exactly the same thing with Corsair memory.

You know, I'm wondering... that geForce 9400M. You know, the integrated one that uses that 4GB of RAM... do you get any instability when using the discrete 9600M which has dedicated memory? I can't test this, as I've already taken my RAM back.

But I'm wondering... if the geForce 9400M is very fussy with its RAM, or has issues above 4GB. Or, if it's related to the "bad bumps". Hmm...

I don't know specifically. They gave me a brand new machine with Apple supplied RAM and all has been fine for me personally.

I'm also on the MB so only the 9400M. Though I believe by looking at the MBP forums the people had the RAM issue with the 9600 also. I believe it is the chipset itself and not the integrated GPU.

I received my brand new Macbook 2 weeks ago. Couple of days there after I installed Kingston 2x2gb upgrade kit especially for Mac.

Then the crashing started. Couple of times a day.

I removed 1 of the memory banks and replaced it with one of the original 1 gb memory. So now I am running on 3 gb. Stable no crashes any more.

I think I will call Apple support. But I think I know the answer already.

Apple please do something about this.

This sounds too simple, but it worked. I upgraded to 4gb of ram bought from a non apple dealer and was experiencing the same lines across the screen crash on a daily basis. I finally took the chips out and put them in opposite slots and have been running crash free for a month, even with 3.5 of the 4 in use. Hope this helps

No. They got the right RAM for the Unibody MB. The White MB uses 200-pin DDR2 RAM while the Alum MB uses 204-pin DDR3 RAM.

It is not 200-pin. It is 204-pin. Where did you buy a 4GB set for $198? That's grossly overpriced. I hope you bought the correct RAM.

For example, this [Crucial RAM|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148191] from Newegg is $52.99.
