Left fan Buzzing

The fan on the left hand side of my new MacBook Pro makes an audible buzzing sound as it rotates, is anyone else experiencing this issue? Is this normal? The fans in my previous generation MacBook Pro did not make this noise.

MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz 2 Core Duo, Mac OS X (10.5.5), 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 320GB HD

The "hard drive clicking when MBP is moved" is not a problem, but rather a feature. When you move the MBP the hard drive automatically locks the platters so in case the MBP is dropped, data is less likely to be lost since the platters are not spinning.

The buzzing fan is definitely a problem though - it isn't loud enough to bother me yet, I'll get Applecare and deal with the problem if it becomes an issue in year or so.

Yea, I am having the same problem with my upper left fan. It just started making a buzzing sound like it's rubbing against something or that the bearing is failing.

I made an appt. with the Genius bar. Hopefully, it will be a quick fix.

I run seti@home so the fans are usually running pretty fast most of the time. The top of the line MBPros should be able to handle this.

My son's new MBP is doing this as well. When he first got it two weeks ago, it was completely silent but now there is a distinct buzzing (lawnmower or playing card in the spokes of a bicycle) sound as soon as you turn on the computer. It does change a bit as the fan changes speed (actually less annoying at higher fan speed). I'm convinced it's not the hard drive but one of the fans that's at fault. We'll have to make an appointment at our local Apple Store to have it looked at.

I just got back from the Apple store and the Genius took my MBP into the back and then came out and said the fan definitely needed to be replaced and also ordered a logic board (just in case).

I didn't mention that, when I first got the MBP a few weeks ago, it shut itself down twice when under heavy load (running WoW, BOINC, or playing video).

I noticed via iStat Menus that the CPU and GPU temperatures where hovering around 80C-90C when playing WoW and running SETI@home. I downloaded Fan Control and cranked up the default fan RPM to 3500 RPM and that seemed to get rid of the shutdowns under heavy load. (I let the Genius know and he said that the fans and MBP should be able to handle that.)

He didn't seem aware of any major field issue and was extremely helpful (like usual).

He said it might take a week to get the parts in. When they are done with the repair I will report back.

Well, the problem went from merely annoying to completely intolerable last night. The fan is now making a screeching noise which sounds to me like the fan bearings are completely shot. We'll be calling AppleCare later this morning (after 6am PST) in order to see if anything can be done other than waiting on a replacement fan. Unfortunately, whatever they choose to do will no doubt take several days to provide any real relief.

I, too, now have a fan noise as of yesterday evening, but it is not a clicking noise, but just a noticeable fan noise going all the time on the upper left part of the keyboard. When it started, I noticed that the area around where the plug from the power supply brick entered the computer was warm, but not hot. The temperature in the room was 64°+ F. Since then it goes irrespective of whether that area is cool or warm & only stops when the computer is in sleep mode or shut down. I intend to contact AppleCare on Monday, since it is closed over the weekend. Sounds like we are a growing army of people with this problem.

I just got my MPB back and they replaced the upper left fan. The noise is gone.

They were amazingly quick, as usual. I dropped the MPB off early this afternoon and they had it ready right after dinner. Although, it took about a week for the parts to arrive.

The temperatures are lower than before, which is good.

When running WoW or letting seti@home use 100% of the cpu the temps would pass 80C. Now they hover around 68C (CPU temp).

I think I may have managed to solve my own problem. I hadn't recalibrated the battery fro a ongtime & it occurred to me that somehow the two might just be connected. After calibrating the battery the fan noise was diminished to the point where it was hard to hear it, thus, normal. I guess the noise I had heard was the fan overworking. I hope it stays this way, because I have to travel to Dubai with the cmputer.

One the second or third day of use my new MBP it started making a sort of buzzing sound on the upper left side. At first I thought it was an electrical buzz from the power adapter.. but upon putting my ear close up it seemed to be coming from the fan. It was really annoying even though it wasn't very loud. However, I just left it alone and at some point it went away and has so far not returned at all after a week.
