This Device Cannot Start Code 10

I have a third generation Ipod that is running on an a Pent4 2GB Gateway Windows XP SP2
It worked just fine and then I get the exclamation mark in the device manager. and Then ITunes does not see it and it doesn't work.
I am connecting via Fire Wire.
I have the latest updater and it doesn't see the IPOD to update or restore.
I have installed a new version of ITunes and it doesn't see it.
I have downloaded and installed the latest Microsoft 1394 patch and that didn't work.

This Ipod has continually been trouble since I got it a little over a year ago. I even bought a new computer so that I could use the IPOD since it didn't work on my old computer (P4, windows xp, 1gb,)
Any suggestions would be really, really appreciated.

Ok, I had the same problem with the exact same equipment, Gateway desktop and gen 3 IPOD, heres what I did to fix it..... I installed a different firewire port in an expansion port (I guess thats what they are called) after I re booted my computer with the new hardware, I re-installed the software and hooked up the IPOD to the new firewire port. The computer immediately recognized the ipodand it works fine now.

You can get a firewire port for about $20.00 at bestbuy

Hope this helps!
