iPhone 3G Calling random people by itself

I find lately with my iPhone 3G that it calls people by itself. I was just driving down the road in the car with the phone beside me and all of a sudden i heard 'hello, hello' and low and behold there was my mother on the phone.

has anyone else experienced this? i was wondering if it was voice activated or if it was a bug or something?

*1 My iPhone 3GS has made calls on its own a couple of times, last night I left it on a side table in my living room, and went to my bedroom around 10:10. Then around 11:00 I was online with my laptop and my friend said I called him, which I didnt so I went and checked my phone and it had a Recent call from 10:21. I was not even close to the phone when it made this call. This is scary, as I've read that people have had this happen to them and the person who is being called in the background can hear your conversations without you having a clue. Once I had a friend on the phone and he asked me for directions, so I put him on hold while I looked at the maps, after I ended that call another friend told me that I had called him a minute ago. My screen never showed me making another call nor did I accidentally dial him, but my Recents did show this other mysterious call.

*2 My iPhone has also started playing ipod music on its own without me doing anything to start it. I also have read others have reported this. Very strange!

*3 To make this is even weirder: I have email notifications off and only fetch new info when I open my email program, email program was not running, iphone locked and in my pocket and it made that little sounds it does when fetching new data, twice in less than 20 min, completely random.

I am starting to feel frustated, specially because of the ghost calls! should I go to the apple store? I found several posts where people have reported this but nobody came up with an answer.

Got the same problem. While in sleep mode the iPhone randomly makes calls and on one occasion has played music on its own...might be bored?!!?...
Fortunately only calls wife but she is not impressed. Only owned phone for a month and doesn't have many additional apps. Am curious if anyone also has any of the following apps: FlightTrack, IDisk, Alarm Clock or IFoundPlus as there may be a common item that influences the action.

I have also been having this problem. My phone once called my husband 14X in an hour. Very annoying. It has also called people I haven't called in weeks or months, so it is not just dialing the last number. I added a password to my phone, thinking it was just turning itself on when jostling in my purse, but that did not solve the problem.

Like some others, I have a bluetooth headset. This problem of random dialing didn't start until after I bought my bluetooth headset a few weeks ago - but I hadn't had the phone for long before that.

Have been experimenting with the problem and have several tried several options. Number one is to keep the recent list cleared. Found that the calling problem doesn't seem to occur with a cleared recent list. Second, the random music (ipod) playing & phone calling have one item in common -- voice activation. On one occasion, I noticed that the voice window was open during an internal initiated random call. Tried to deactivate the voice capability but can only do when under a passcode and this didn't seem to help. I could repeat the problem in a car with the radio speaker adjacent to the iPhone so that is a data point that suggests that mic location might also be suspect. Finally, also have the bluetooth headset connection but problem never occurred with the two connected.

I am having the same problem. Today my dad looked at me and said you are calling me as we were walking out of the house. I looked back and asked are you sure, my phone is in the Jeep. Sure enough my phone was sitting in the front seat and according to his phone I called him @ 3:37 and according to my phone... no record of the call. This has happened before and I just thought I forgot to lock the phone and accidentally hit a button.

I have no Bluetooth headset and Bluetooth is disabled, I am also running the latest 3.2.1.

I have the exact same problem. I have now isolated it to being my Bluetooth headset. If I push the button on my Bluetooth headset, it will automatically cause my phone to dial the last called/received number in my list. This happens even if my phone is locked, which I find very disturbing. Does anyone know how to prevent the headset from initiating calls when the phone is locked? Seems like a major design flaw on the part of Apple to allow unauthorized calls when the phone is locked.

My 3G iPhone running 3.1.2 (7D11) was plugged into the charger sitting on my bed stand and had auto-locked.

The phone placed 3 calls by itself at the turn of midnight Oct 17/18, 2009. The numbers called were in both my favorites and recent calls list. I became aware of the calling since the third call placed was to my home phone which woke me up.

One other factor, which may or may not have contributed to the problem is that the iPhone was sitting on my Kindle - which was off at the time.

A few months ago, shortly after installing 3.0 software, my iPhone self-deleted many icons and rearranged others while also sitting on the Kindle.

Very strange - indeed.
