Can't purchase? There is not enough memory available. There was an error in

I just started getting this error tonight from the itunes store. It works fine until I try to purchase a song and then I get this message:

"Could not purchase "song name". There is not enough memory available.
There was an error in the Itunes store. Please try again later."

I tried restarting computer, etc but that didn't help. I am using an older version of itunes (7.5.0.20?). Could this be the problem?
Does anyone know how to fix this or what is causing it?

Yeah I tried calling and they just told me to email itunes store support. They don't handle this issue, or at least the guy I talked to doesn't lol. Haven't heard back from the itunes email people yet.

I wonder what the posters who got the responses about Apple/Itunes having server issues asked exactly? Because the person at the tech support number who I spoke to was like zero help and just told me that they didn't help with itunes store problems.

Well the guy I spoke with told me they are getting a lot of calls about this problem, but had to send emial....lets see what happens since I can't upgrade yet...If they don't fix it they lost a really good customer, cause I have bought plenty of music in the past...I have been an Apple person for years, but this is really making me think twice...:(

Thanks. The person I spoke with was nice (my last post kinda makes it sound like he was rude but he wasn't at all) but I guess he just hadn't heard anything about it.

I expect they will fix it as soon as they can and I'm not too bothered about not buying songs for a few days. Just a little disappointed that its such a drawn out process with customer support before they'll even tell you what the cause is or even whose end the problem is on, etc. Glad I remembered this message board before I deleted anything.

Hi all

The issue we are all having is due to the old version of iTunes. If you want to download any new songs, you have to install iTunes version 8, compatible only with Windows XP and Vista.

I am running Windows 2000 OS which is not compatible with the latest version of iTunes.

I would like to pass on to you the response I got from iTunes store support:

+I understand that you are unable to download any songs from the iTunes Store. I am very sorry to hear you have run into this issue. I'd like to thank you for your interest in the iTunes Store.+

+To use iTunes, your computer must meet the system requirements listed here:+
+ http://www.apple.com/itunes/download+

+The sales and service policies for the iTunes Store are available here:+
+ http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww+

+If your system doesn't meet the requirements there is nothing further that Apple can do. I apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused.+

+We greatly appreciate your understanding. Thank you for contacting the iTunes Store Support Team. Take care Jasna!+

+Best Wishes,+

+Please Note: I will be working Monday Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this week.+

+Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to assist you. You may receive an AppleCare survey email; any feedback you provide would be greatly appreciated.+

So if you have older version of iTunes and your system is not compatible with the requirements, you will have to spend some money to upgrade your computer and OS if you want to download from iTunes again.

So, since Apple has gone all Micro$oft-like on us unfortunate users with older hardware, does that mean Apple will be REFUNDING unused portions of prepaid Itunes cards? I have no interest in upgrading my hardware and OS. They supported our configuration less than a week ago. They have chosen to ignore this segment of the purchasing public, so when can we expect our refunds, hmmm?

I'm stuck too... Using Windows 2000 and am unwilling to spend 200 bucks to upgrade the OS just to keep using iTunes. It was bad enough when then made upgrading mandatory to keep using the iPod, this is crap... They going to pay me back for the thousands of songs I have paid for? Because they can have them back. They are no longer the only game in town...

Well I have Windows XP and it still won't let my purchase songs. I keep getting that same error ("not enough memory"). This is nuts. You know they're losing some serious $$$$ right now. You would think they'd want to fix this problem ASAP. ...... Especially right before X-Mas!!!

Even though I have Windows XP I refuse to "upgrade." From the looks of all these threads and posts, there are some major problems with the new "upgrade." I'm not really great with computers as it is, and I certainly don't want to have to deal with losing my music, not being able to burn a CD, or my computer freezing. Why the heck they just don't leave things the way they are, I'll never understand. ..... "UPGRADES" don't always mean better!!!

Somebody fix this, PLEASE!!!!!!

I also have Windows 2000 but you really dont have to upgrade your computer. Go to the page where you can download itunes 8 and then scroll all the way to the bottom. In very, very tiny blue letters on the left hand side of the page it will say Windows 2000 users right under the description of the needed software. (sorry if that was a tad bit confusing) it might not be the latest itunes but at least its something. hope that helps
