Can't purchase? There is not enough memory available. There was an error in

I just started getting this error tonight from the itunes store. It works fine until I try to purchase a song and then I get this message:

"Could not purchase "song name". There is not enough memory available.
There was an error in the Itunes store. Please try again later."

I tried restarting computer, etc but that didn't help. I am using an older version of itunes (7.5.0.20?). Could this be the problem?
Does anyone know how to fix this or what is causing it?

I got a couple emails from customer support this evening. The first one responding to my initial email about the error message:

+*Over the past 24 hours some customer's have reported the same issue that you are experiencing. I apologize for any inconvenience or frustration caused by this issue. Since then the issue causing customers to be unable to make purchases or access the store has been resolved. Please attempt to purchase this item again, if you are still unable to please respond to this email and I will be happy to assist you further.*+

and then I emailed back to say that I could now download some songs but not others (will explain later as it may be a partial fix for users w/windows 2000) and got this back-

*+Dear xyz,+*

*+This matter will be taken care of as soon as possible. A lot of iTunes customers are experiencing this problem.+*

What I found worked was if I went to the "Top Songs" page for an artist I could download from that page without any problems. I still can't download directly from a specific CD/album but was able to buy most of the songs I wanted using that trick. Hope it helps a little.

I am not sure what to think now though, one customer service rep says download the new version, the one I heard from says the problem will be fixed asap?

I agree. I just want to be able to download songs. Period. I don't WANT all that extra garbage that I will probably never use anyway! Why are they going "Bill Gates" on us, anyway? It's that "planned obsolescence" I was talking about earlier! If they don't rectify the problem to our satisfaction -- or at least let us with older systems download songs -- I'll just look for another music download source....

They are actually going Adobe on us. "Would you like to update?"
"Would you like to update?"
"Would you like to update?"
"Would you like to update?"
"Would you like to update?"
"Would you like to update?"
"Would you like to update?"
"Your content can only be accessed after an update. Downloading..."

"I'll just look for another music download source...."
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha..... good one. Independent voters have been saying this for years too. "I believe that I'll vote for a third party candidate."

They all do this. That's the beauty of capitalism. You can have it any color you like, as long as it's black.

An upgrade to iTunes 8.0.2 worked for me which establishes an MO for Apple wrt iTunes, tolerate older versions only for couple .0.x revisions of the newest one. Oh well, this is the greenest grass I've found so far so I'll stay here. Minor nuisance in comparison to the rest of life.

Well to save you wondering if the Apple will give any of us refund - the answer is NO.

Here is the repy I have received after I asked to get my money back:

+I understand that since your computer does not meet the system requirements you+

+would like a refund. I am very sorry to hear you have run into this issue. I+

+will do my best to assist you!+

+Your request for a refund was carefully considered; however, according to the+

+iTunes Store Terms of Sale, all purchases made on the iTunes Store are final.+

+This policy matches Apple's refund policies and provides protection for+

+copyrighted materials.+

+You can review the iTunes Store Terms of Sale for more information:+
+ http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/sales.html+

+I would recommend that you ask someone who has a computer that meets all the+

+system requirements if you can download your purchases. Once you have found a+

+computer that meets the requirements, reply and I will allow you to redownload+

+all of your purchases. After downloading onto that computer, you can burn all+

+your purchases to a disk and copy them to your computer.+

+I hope you continue to enjoy the iTunes Store, and if you have any other+

+problems with this issue, don't hesitate to reply to this email, and we'll be+

+more than happy to help you out! I hope that this information will assist you+

+with your issue. Thank you for contacting the iTunes Store Support Team. Have+

+a fantastic day!+

+Best Wishes,+

Thanks for the tip:

It worked for me. A neat workaround whilst we're waiting for Apple to sort their problem out. They must be losing $$$ so you'd think they'd hurry up.

Hi - unfortunatley it does not help.
You can now only download songs from iTunes store with iTunes version 8.
This version is only compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista.
So if you have Microsoft OS, it will not work with any older versions 😟
But if you have XP or Vista download version 8 and all your problems will be solved.
If you still want to use iTunes.
I am definitley going to use Media Monkey and Winamp in the future.

I'm in exactly the same boat regarding this - I tried to upgrade to version 8.0 but my version of Windows XP does not allow this !! I've emailed support, so can only echo what has already been said on this forum regarding if everyone emails the support team then something may get done !! This is not exactly a great advert for Apple customer satisfaction - has anyone seen any complaints regarding this issue in the wider media ?

I've downloaded iTunes 8 and have Windows XP Pro and itr still doesn't work like others in this thread have suggested....

What is the latest? Apple said they'd e-mail me but I never got a response from them.

Does anyone that loaded iTunes 8 and had it work have any tricks to use ?
OR is this a bonified iTune problem? There are mixed mssgs here...

Hey, i just upgraded to version 8 and it worked. No more memory message. Now let's see if the darn thing will sync with my car. the last time i upgraded, which was about 1 year ago it screwed up my car connection. I figured that out with the help of you folks online, (no thanks to Apple). So I've been afraid to upgrade. Cross your fingers. I just purchased something and i'm headed out to my car. LOL
