Firmware 2.2 - Apple Lossless Still Skips

Really disappointed after applying firmware 2.2 that the 2G iPod Touch still skips when playing apple lossless while screen is off.

Hi David, like Chris Melby, i personally can hear a difference at lossless to 320 on my Shure 530's anyway.

Just to ask you the question David after your following quote;

"To my ear, the Touch is the 3rd best sounding of the models that I own--there is FAR more difference in sound characteristics between models (to MY ear) than there is between lossless and 320. I quite frankly am disappointed in the sound quality of the Touch. My 2nd Gen Nano is clearly my second favorite model, just behind my 4th Gen iPod"

How different/better would you say the ipod 4th gen is compared to the Touch?

I always considered a original ipod as it has massive storage space, but never got on with the click wheel and was not keen on button layout.

The Touch still sound's okay, but nowhere near overall sound to my Sony A818 or my new Cowon D2. I do think the vocal's stand out well on the "Touch" but it seems to be bass light to compensate for a cleaner mid range, but can sound a little almost dare i say it "tiny/hollow" sounding and i am sure the amp is not quite powerfull enough in the player.

I just feel the "Touch" has had to sacrifice sound quality for the nice touch scren with wifi application's ability i feel, and with this skipping issue really has'nt stored much faith for me in Apple's ability to provide a top quality player that work's.

Apple should really fix this ASAP. Because there hasn't been a fix so far, I think it might be somehow hardware related. Or then the new iPod Touch goes to a "deeper" power saving mode than the original iPod Touch, thus having a better battery life. Could the power saving features be hard coded somewhere, so that they can't be changed with a normal software update? If that's the case I have no other option than to return the Touch and get an iPhone instead (which is slower normally, but still doesn't suffer from this problem). Too bad the iPhone costs twice as much (when you count the real cost of the phone) and I don't even need a new phone. Everyone should call Apple and complain about this. Maybe then we could get some new information. I'm gonna call next monday (8th of December) if my flu is over by then.

Regarding your last post skip3, I too am worried this may be a hardware issue and therefore difficult to fix. After all, why does Apple refuse to acknowledge or respond to this problem, having known about it for two months? Why didn't they address this issue in the last software update?. Why didn't Apple check Lossless playback BEFORE they launched the 2nd generation Touch? I fear Apple are struggling to provide a solution and don't have the decency to admit it. Meanwhile, many of us have paid almost £300 for a device that doesn't work properly. Apple would appear to be selling a product that is not ' fit for purpose' They clearly state in their advertising, and on the box, that the Touch is designed to play Apple Lossless files. If Apple can't solve this problem, they should do the decent thing and recall this product.

It is incredibly frustrating, having paid the best part of £300, only to find this product does not work as advertised . It is even more frustrating that Apple will not admit there is a problem and provide some sort of time-scale. Come on Apple, show us you care!

"Apple should really fix this ASAP."

"If that's the case I have no other option than to return the Touch and get an iPhone instead (which is slower normally, but still doesn't suffer from this problem). Too bad the iPhone costs twice as much"

Maybe the motivation for Apple to fix the problem isn't there if users are willing to buy a more expensive device?

I would rather return the device and NOT buy a device again until it's fixed!

I understand what you're saying, but I've already noticed that the other features the iPod Touch offers are so good that i "can't live without them" and can't be found on any other device except for the iPhone, so that doesn't really leave me many options sadly.

But Apple can shove their "It just works" BS need I say where…

This IMO goes against everything Apple is claiming to be!

This situation especially is a disgrace, more so because it's their own codec!!!

This list is growing with Apple lossless user's beoming so frustrated with the player people are taking them back to get their money back.

Especailly first time Apple ipod purchaser's (including me) is enough to put you of buying the brand again and after all this time ignoring Apple over Somy Walkmans until i got frustrated at Sony's been one step behind with their memory allocation on release to other brands since they started using flash only player's and the ipod Touch screen and application's finally turned me to switch to give Apple a try for once.

Seem's all that time i was anti ipod has been vindicated by my first purchase of one being a technilogical dud with it's own codec!

So Apple, i hope you are reading this thread as this is all going to be about word of mouth, like most bussiness can trhive or die on it (not suggesting Apple will go bankrupt with it's pucblic perception it's the best player since sliced bread!) since i purchased this machine a week ago i have talked with around 15 colleagues at work about this problem and four of them were thinking about buying a "Touch" soon, but after hearing Apple current technilogical issue with the Touch they have changed their mind's.

One is going to buy Apple still, butthe cheaper Nano model, two are going for a Cowon D2 after seeing my one in action and the fourth is going for the new 16gb Sony walkman with fm radio.

So my point is Apple (if you are listening or reading this post's?) is if i have told 20 people and four have done a u-turn buying the "Touch" look at how many that is just potentailly on this thrad alone if they told "x" amount of friend's that where going to buy one and chang their mind's?

Even if this problem is irriverasable and cannot find a solution for this player id it was hardware issue's possibly, we would all appreciate it if you(Apple) made a response to the issue and inform all us user's who have spent over £200 on an ipod "Tocuh" at least what you are doing about it and what you plan to do to try and rectify it?

See, it's bad enough that this problem exist's, but if Apple ignore us CUSTOMER'S then they could have another problem in them getting a reputation for ignoring CUSTOMER'S and treating them like they don't exist?

Surly someone on here from Apple read's these forum's and can make a statement on here about what is happening??

Another thing about the "Touch" if Apple ar listening is the sound quality is not good as a Sony, Cowon or Creative player's, and at this rate if this problem does not get sorted or notification on a time line to try and sort it out i will plan to sell on the "Touch" use my new Cowon D2 which is awesome little player with more memory then a "Touch" with expandable memory and wait for Sony to bring a 32 - 64gb touch screen ipod killer of their own in the next year as i will be very weary aftr this experience of buying an ipod without doign a lot of ground work on the realibility on a ipod befoe eever thinking aout getting one again.

So Apple, please do the right thing and respond to us hard earned paying customer's of your glitzy product that does not work properly.
You (Apple) will get more respect from us frustrated user's if you did notify us, even if it was not good new's in reply!

Please, please ,please respond to this thread.....
