Really disappointed after applying firmware 2.2 that the 2G iPod Touch still skips when playing apple lossless while screen is off.

I have had this problem too. I did not know about this until today. I have exchanged three 2g 32gb so far with the same problem. I will be returning this one for a refund tomorrow. The genius at the Apple Store had told me after the third return that this was the last time as the problem was with my gear. Yeah right! Thanks to the person who sent me this link. I plan on passing this along to everyone I know who has it or plans on getting one for Xmas.
I'm having the same problem with my Ipod Touch 2G 16GB. From the sound of this, it could be a hardware issue... I thought of returning it as I'm still eligible but I had it engraved and apparently it is not returnable... I'm screwed.
This problem makes listening to music on-the-go very unpleasant!
Please Apple, fix it ASAP (hopefully with a software patch!)

You can return it as it's defective, even though it is engraved. You can't return it for no reason because you got it engraved, but now you have a valid reason.
Hi Yan S, if you your player was engraved through the Apple store engraving service then i would of thought it is irrelevant if it is engraved or not as the machine has been sold defective from Apple in the first place and is not fit for purpose and it does not effect your statuary right's!
So if it is still with-in refund period i would still get one (refund) if you cannot wait to see how many year's Apple will take to sort this issue out?

Just discovered this bug on my 2G iPod Touch. Very disappointed that this is happening. Hopefully Apple will fix this in a future firmware upgrade. This is very frustrating!
Call Apple support and get a case number! This is the only way to let Apple know about these problems..or why they are being returned.

better add sound quality to your list, because that's what most people probably google before buying (if anything), at least i did, but did not find any topics then.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could store your music in Itunes in Lossless format and be able to use another format on your iPod?
You can--just rip cd's using lossless codec and then select them all and convert them to whatever you want. It's a simple matter to select either type of music files and put them into a playlist or even move them to another iTunes library. It's NOT that big a deal, other than the fact it will take many hours to convert thousands of songs from one format to another, but iTunes can do it while you are doing something else. I've got stereo rips, and mono songs on my ipod because I'm deaf in one ear. That way I can play the stereo files from my laptop to our home music system and listen with headphones to my mono files on my ipods. A benefit of mono files is they are 1/2 the size of stereo files of the same bit rate.
Apple does not use their discussion forums for feedback. For that you would have to use Apple Feedback.

I've had all sorts of trouble on the first generation iPod Touch. THere have been no firmwares released to fix this problem.
The skipping problem occurred after firmware update 1.1.2. The songs would skip, then cut out. The 2.0 firmware update fixed the cutting out problem, just not the skipping. After e-mailing the iTunes store support, they said that they weren't trained to treat this problem and that I should call support instead. Support said that it was not the iPod in which it was affected, it was the music files themselves. Like the 128 bit rate songs on the Nano 2nd gen where the songs wouldn't play on Apple Encoded AAC files. That problem could be fized by switching off from the AACs.
I use both AAC and AIFF files. They both skip. Yet, it isn't that every song is affected. Certain ripped songs and songs bought from the iTunes store are both affected evenly. Leaving the backlight on does not keep the songs from skipping, in almost never did. This would lead you to believe that the music files are defective. Listen to them on another iPod and your home-free.
The processor does slow when in sleep mode, but not enough to do anything significant like this.

Hope Apple can fix it before next year@@

I have escalated to Apple engineers.
That's all I have, but it has been flagged.
