iPod restore error (14)

A few weeks ago my ipod(8GB) said i was using about 4gig in "other" i deleted all my apps and it still didnt go down, so i clicked restore and update, my ipod updated however since then has been in "recovery mode."

When trying to restore I get the following message:
+The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14)+

The ipod screen displays a picture of iTunes symbol with the usb cable arrowing towards it.

i have tried using a different computer(also windows xp), using a different usb, holding down home button and on/off button aswell as reinstalling itunes and none of these have worked.

There are 11,000+ views for this thread.

I sure wish there was something coming from Apple on how to fix this error 14 while trying to restore after trying to update.

I live in a rather remote area of N. California and there is not apple store to take it to for repair.

There was a post about device manager and portable devices and updating drivers. There is no portable devices in my device manager. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Sincerely, Desperate

Hi,
I'm having the same error 14 problem after updating to 3.0 on ipod touch.
Could somebody please explain how to revert back to say 2.1, I've downloaded from the link suggested but do not see an ispn thingy file in the 2.1.2 folder.
I have noticed that in the itunes / apple inc / iphone 3.0 software update for ipod touch folder there are no files!
Any help highly appreciated as very frustrating ipod not working, cheers,
Nick
