One question to all:
Are you using the external monitor with the LID closed?
I use 90% an external monitor and want the LID closed esspecially because of issue 1
I have 2 issues:
1) with dual monitor (a DELL E228WFP) attached via MDP-->DVI
I cant get the native res on the DELL, it shows the right one 1680*1050 in the system, but its distorted and blury.
2) with LID closed
I get the native non blury res on the external monitor, it wont wake up anymore after putting it to sleep, and if I start itunes the display starts to flicker every second. It stops when I close itunes.
This happens with the 9400 & 9600 no difference.
could someone with the Apple 24" LED try to reproduce this?
I would like to buy it, but I´am afraid that it will be the same and i need to bring 3000€ (4120$) hardware back to Apple.
I run it with the lid open. I had initially planned to run it with the lid closed when working at home, but alas it kills the wifi reception. So in order to use the wireless network, I have to keep the lid open.
For me also no salvation of the problem...
Am I the only one whos display won't even wake up after being plugged in? When I connect my display to the minidisplay port, literally nothing happens. Changing the grafics won't do anything, as "detect monitors" (or alike, I don't know the exact english term) doesn't help, either.

Yes, I can run the display with the lid closed. I use the new Apple wireless keyboard and wireless Mighty Mouse. Now, since I have a terrible WiFi connection when I run it that way I haven't used it with the lid closed long enough to say there are no issues. It may well develop a problem when it gets hot since it gets much hotter when it's run with the lid closed. All I can tell you for sure is that I have no problems closing the lid and using the external screen for a short time.
Still no updates, no fixes, no explanations and no statements.
A few weeks ago, I contacted apple directly asking some fairly simple questions, regarding the external display issues, whether they were hardware related or software related.
The reply which came in last week was about as useful as a chocolate tea pot in all honesty.
All questions unanswered and completely avoided.
The reply contained a list of helplines, links to the support sites (which contain no info) and an extremely lame apology.
This is a joke. A multi million dollar company and still no remedy after nearly four months since the release of the product. What does this suggest?
When you consider the price of the machine(s) the least they can do issue a statement addressing and acknowledging what is already a known issue that's still without a fix or solution.

There is only one mini display port equivalent and it seems to be released in the US only as this time.
Many users have tried replacing the VGA or DSUB cable after Apple reps had recommended more expensive options. This proved inefffective.
The real question to be asking is whether these issues and faults are software or hardware related. I have already sent an email to Apple asking the said question and they avoided giving me an answer.
Although it is of great inconvenience a software issue is much more agreeable as it can be rectified with a fix or update (when Apple bother to create one of course).
Hardware issues will require the replacement of components and that would mean a trip to your local Apple store and booking your unit in for the service, it also means being without a computer for an undetermined amount of time.
If you are earning your living as I am with my unit then being without it is not a very favorable option.
I think that its a software issue. My external display (lacie electron) goes black 4/5 times in hour, for 5sec each time, them go back to normal state... under bootcamp its PERFECT!!! no issue with the external display!!
Well after all this time I think I now know why my Samsung display would rarely be detected by my Macbook Pro 15" (late 2008).
Firstly let me refresh what the issues were exactly, that I was experiencing since November last.
After 2 days owning the MBP my Samsung 2493HM external display failed to be detected. The 'Detect Displays' button in the system preferences did nothing , ever.
Some days it would detect the display and some days not. There were no patterns.
Specifically the 9600 GPU was the worst preference, I don't recall the Samsung being detected at all with the faster GPU running, only the 9400.
Also on the days that the display successfully connected, if I accidently turned the display off or restarted my MBP then I could forget the display being detected at all until the next time it 'decided' to connect, which could be days!
I had tried every trick rumored, I had called Apple and had no answers, I had emailed Apple and had no answers, just yesterday however I had some available time after a meeting with my accountant so I took my MBP to an Apple store and asked to try it with one of the cinema displays, the rep said "sure" and promptly disappeared to find a mini display port as I had forgotten mine.
He returned moments later and apologized but they didn't have any more mini display ports in store.
Great.
Never the less he ran off again and came back with the 'Mini Display Port to Dual Link DVI Adapter' a cable which I had assumed was specifically for the connection to Apple cinema displays.
Now there's a big difference in price here:
Mini Display port = 29 bucks
Mini Display Port to Dual Link DVI Adapter = *99 bucks!*
The rep confirmed my belief, it was indeed to connect a MBP to an Apple display and not intended for third party displays.
I asked what the main difference was between the two cables other than the extortionate price,
"It's powered" he says.
"Can I buy it and try it and if it doesn't work can I bring it back and get my moneyback"
"Sure"
Done!
Well blow me down Olive'sk!, 99 bucks detects the **** display first time off, works exactly as it should, it doesn't matter what I do to try and recreate a failure to detect the Samsung display, it detects everytime!
Repeated turning the display off, no problem, selecting the 9600 GPU and then repeate turning off and reboots = no problem! Detected every time.
Issue is fixed. I can hazard a gues that maybe the mini diaply port is simply useless and a powered alternative is exactly what the hook up needs.
I'm still writing to Apple and going to ask for a discount on this cable or something at least, like the refund of the 2 mini display port adapters I have tried with no success last year.
Anyone else who has the same issue with third party diplays I would suggest to do the same.
