screen flicker resolved?

I'm reporting another problem related to this issue.

I've recently installed Windows Vista 32bit via bootcamp. (vista runs under full 9600m GT mode since bootcamp doesn't provide customers with 9400m driver.) Under brighness level 1~5 from the darkest, it continuously flickers.

I have thought this issue is a hardware issue. Yet, I'm a bit suspicious about my implication. I see no flickering in Mac OS when I use 9600m GT; I see it flickering when I use Vista which has full-time 9600m GT driver. I'll install XP again and check.

Does anyone have such problem with your Vista?

yep same problem under vista.

try this little test.

use 9600gt under mac osx and run one of the video intensive screensavers for about 15 minutes (make your video card work) then put your brightness level down to '1 or 2' and see if you get the flicker/pulsing. I do. Goes away after it cools off.

I am having a flicker issue but it only happens when I use the "Higher Performance" mode in the Energy Saver control panel. The screen is fine when I use "Better Battery Life". I believe my problem is related to the power draw or a defect in the higher performance video chip used when "Higher Performance" is selected. (2.4 GHz 15" unibody Macbook Pro, 4 GB RAM, stock hard drive.)

It's 100% reproducible on my machine. Switch to Better Battery Life, flicker vanishes.

Had a new MBP sent out from Apple - alas still the same fault!

Apple CS have been very helpful, i'm just now trying to get them to confirm its a
firmware issue - if so i'll keep it(if it's going to be corrected in a future update)...if they can't confirm this i'll be having ANOTHER replacement.

Apple have had my MBP longer than I have!

I 'barely' noticed this until I saw this thread.

Has anyone tried turning off the Ambient Light Sensor? Did that help?

This is horrible!!! For lack of worst choice of words. This sure is one expensive machine and I can't believe Apple released it with this many issues. They better fix this or I will be one ticked off SOB. $3400 for a flickering machine is not acceptable to me or anyone else in the planet.

Brand new 17 here, does flicker on low brightness, but goes away if I bump it up a notch or two...so for now, I'll just wait and see how they resolve it...but I'm not going to play the exchange game right now...I've got too much work to do:)

Its been two days now using new 17-inch MBP glossy. So far I don't see any flickering. I tried in every way posted here. Can someone post a video on youtube or somewhere what exactly is happening.

I am still in the process of comparing its contrast from other notebooks, my old notebook and my new iMac 24". Let's see how it goes. The colour tone is definitely is different. Maybe calibration could fix this issue but doing calibration through system preferences is not an easy task. I already spent so much time on it but still no luck. Other calibration tools are way too expensive that I don't wanna spend anything on that.

Don't know if there is any place where I could find some guidelines to calibrate MPB display through Calibrate option under system preferences > display.

I'm having the same problem now.

I sent my machine in because it was freezing on the 9600. They replaced the logic board, but now my machine is flickering on the 9600 when there is some cpu load.

Very sad.

More testing shows it happens for me on the 9400 when I'm on battery. Sigh
