G5 won't connect to server

Thought this would be simple. I'm trying to network a G4 Quicksilver w/ a G5 iMac. Addresses check out, all seems to be set properly for the firewire connection. My network utility shows both computers communicating. But where the G4 shows a server icon for the iMac and connects, the G5 continues to tell me that I must fix the G4 icon's alias. It's the G4 I wish to use as the server, of course. The G4 address and name show in my server window on the G5, but the connect button is unresponsive. There has to be an obscure setting that's off or a corrupted or missing file on the G5 but I'll be darned if I can find it. When I got the G5 I did upgrade the OS from Panther to Tiger and transferred the files. Help?

G4 933 mHz, 512 MB RAM, 60 Gig, 120 Gig HDs, 1.8 gHz iMac G5, 75 Gig HD., Mac OS X (10.4.9), OS 10.1.2, 9.2.2, NEC 3550A, Stylus Photo 1280, ScanMaker i900
