When I bought a registration code, I was urge to make a safety backup of the installer.
I did it on a CD and so had no problem.
Of course, those which doesn't read what they are urged to do may encounter problems but THEY are the culprit, not Apple.

Apple Web site is not our backup device 😉

Thanks, Mr. Koenig! Your foresight has saved yet another frustrated iWork user. Now I realize it's up to me to keep a backup, which I certainly intend to do.

I understand that they don't like that. They are afraid of possible viruses embedded in such item (like in the iWork '09 disk image which was on a torrent).

Thanks a million! I was having a time with my CD that I just bought--it was new but an old '08 cd. This made my day.

I had the same problem. However going thru the online web support resulted in a Apple rep calling me back within 60 seconds. He setup an appointment to an Apple store where they could install the software on my laptop, and in addition he scheduled an expedited shipment (for free) of a CD with iWork '08 to my home.

While yes, they could have made it available for download rather easily, support was very responsive in trying to help.

You have potentially saved me! I'm downloading your dmg of the iwork 08 installer, right now. I am so in need of this to work.

I have to disagree that customers should always make backups -- for anybody who purchases a license to a software that is downloaded and installed (i.e. there were no original CDs or DVDs), there should be a way for them to get a copy of the archived version without having to pull their hair out. For apple, this is simply a matter of providing a link to a web download.

I found that they still have the DMG available at http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iWork/Trial/693-6 302.20070807.n8rT5/iWork08Trial.dmg

If only there was a quicker way to find this out (rather than going through search engines .. I found this link by doing a search on http://www.bing.com)

It's a link allowing to grab the beast exactly as you may get it from my iDisk.

The difference is that I know what is really on my iDisk but don't know what is available from the given link.

It's not Apple's duty to continue to make the trial version of a no longer distributed product available for download.
This file is not the backup for silly users, it's a file designed to help users to decide if they really want to buy. So, logically, only iWork'09 trial is available from Apple servers.

I repeat, it's the user duty to make a backup when they work with a downloaded trial version.
It's the same for every product delivered thru the net.
There is no guarantee that you will be able to download a replacement copy.

For those paranoid (like me) I have MD5 summed both Yvan's file and the edgesuite.net link posted above and compared the results with my own local copy which I backed up after downloading (but lost until this afternoon which is why I was on this page).

Correct MD5 sum is 5d955e6b30bd0f42fa93a44af4071e86 and both the linked files above are unmodified so you are safe to download either.

After downloading just compare the MD5 sum of your download with the one above to be free from worry.

total novice here. I am trying to figure out how the **** I utilize a download such as iworks. computer prompts me to restart - i do which would indicate that 30 day free version is ready to use. Yet, when I click on it in downloads, I get the open box and the agreement asking me to download again. How do it use this stuff I download? What do I need to click on? Feel like a total idiot in regards to using downloadable applications. thanks for any help you can provide.

You download a iwork08.dmg file. If the .dmg opens automatically go to your
Download folder. Double click on the .dmg file. It will open as a window with a package init. Double click on the package to install iWork. restart if prompted to do so.

I've understood you have done this already, right?!

Now you'll find iWork in your Application folder. Open the folder and double click on Pages. It will start to open!!!

The iwork08.dmg you save to a CD or other disc, might be handy if something nasty happens to your computer!

Are Iwork 08 or 09 come with the mac book pro?

I am trying to typing a document but i do not know where i have to type....

If you want to work more than one month with one of them, you must buy it.
