This never happened before... I opened up iTunes and clicked on a song, and it would not play. The currently playing bar says the song title and the artist, but the diamond is not moving and the time is not running either.
I have the same problem! All my songs have played just fine before. I didn't add any new ones... I have been using iTunes for a couple years on this computer and this is the first time I've had technical issues. Please help us!
Same problem. I can select the song, the artwork for the song appears, but the song will not play. I have tried reloading i-tunes, rebooting the computer, etc. No change.
I have a similar problem. I have about 2000 songs on an ext. hard drive and Itunes 8 on the C drive. Everything has been working ok until this morning. All my songs and artwork still appear in Itunes, but when I click on a song to play it I get the error message " The song (song name) could not be used because the original file could not be found. would you like to locate it?" so I did with that one song. now that one song will play in Itunes, but I cannot do the locate 2000 more times. there has to be another way to get all the songs back! Does anyone know how ???
My computer crashed. I paid a company to retrieve data from hard drive, and transfered music to restored computer. I authorized computer through itunes, and I am able to purchase and download music. BUT I cannot play any music purchased from itunes and it will not sync to ipod. Itunes asks for password, then tells me that the computer is already authorized, but music still will not play and will not sync. HELP! $200 worth of music and cannot listen to it.
The same thing has happened to only one of my songs. I just downloaded it and it won't play on my computer nor my iPod. I have tried everything in the trouble shooting guides and nothing has worked.
I am having the same problem with my iTunes. It is not only not playing the songs I bought in the iTunes store, but also the songs from my cds. I went through the troubleshooting article and tried all of their suggested solutions, but nothing has changed.
I can't believe that so many people are having this issue and no one from apple is offering any help. Its the little things like this and the crappy service I get in apple stores that keep me from switching to apple as my OS.
I have that too for some songs I received from a friend. If you go into your iTunes music folder, there should be another folder labeled previous libraries. If that is where the "original files" are, go into your iTunes File menu, click add folder to library and it should take care of that issue. Since the tracks are still in your playlist, you might have to go through one by one and delete duplicates. That's what I'm doing right now.
It might also be to your benefit to move your iTunes to the external hard drive prior to adding the songs to your library.
Mess around with it and if you figure something better out, let me know!
Find one of the music files on your computer, and open it using itunes, this often fixes it until itunes is restarted, if this resolves it you can make a shortcut for a song and use this to open itunes each time.
I have not had problems with either my pc or mac, although I just took all the music off my desktop onto a separate hard drive and now need iTunes to recognise the new location. Let you know how that goes. The apple solutions have so far worked for me. I wonder if XP has more issues? I'm not upgrading to Vista for a while as I've heard too many complaints. OS X10.5.6 is working fine as is XP last version.
