Tiger 10.4.11
Just downloaded Quicktime 7.6. Finder now jumps to front window every 2 minutes or so, preempting any other program. How can I get back to 7.5.5 which worked fine?
I also had the same problem and was glad to see these posts. I tried a number of things - removed Stuffit as suggested, tried to get rid of all Quicktime components (got nowhere with that so reinstalled QT 7.6 Tiger version).
The clue for me was that other accounts set up on the mac loaded fine - only my main one didn't. Had to be a software conflict. I turned off a number of things at login, then systematically removed some extensions from System Prefs - flip for mac, and lastly the one that proved successful, Sound Shuffler. Makes sense, given it's demand on the audio aspect.
Will now start reinstalling things one at a time and see how it goes.
I fund a solution to this problem on another forum site. The solution was figured out by David Krafchick. He stated "Okay, it took my friend Mark Jacobson and I two calls and lots of tests by both of us, but for me, it's fixed. It turned out to be the Stuffit AVR System Preference. Once I turned it off, no Finder relaunch".
I have not had the problem with the Finder relaunching, but Call of Duty 2 will no longer launch. How do I revert to QT 7.5.5? Can this be done without redoing the entire System 10.4.11?
Well I used the program Pacifist to install QuickTime 7.5.5 and then repaired permissions. I still can not open Call of Duty 2, anyone have any other suggestions?? Thanks.
Same issue here. 12" PB G4 1GHz DVI, 10.4.11. Finder keeps quitting and restarting, every 30 seconds to 2 minutes. I do
NOT have Stuffit installed. Can boot into safe mode, so I suspect a third party compatibility issue, but I have a ton of third party stuff installed. Where do I start?
I am not expecting Apple to do much about this. After all, my Airport no long connects automatically when I start up or wake from sleep, and when I go to the Network Pref Pane it gets stuck in an endless loop saying the preferences were set by another application. This first started after a previous Apple update several months ago. The message boards here and at other sites were swamped with complaints about the problem. Apple has not fixed it. Let's face it: Apple is simply not allocating the resources necessary to keep supporting PPC Macs at a high level. And it ****** me off.
Same problem here - 10.4.11, downloaded QT 7.6 this morning and now Call of Duty 2 and Civilization III no longer work (haven't tried anything else yet). Fortunately avoided the Finder problems some others are having. I get that Apple takes pride in being "gamer-unfriendly" but this is ridiculous to happen from an updated Apple product.
Used the Mac Software Update to download the QT 7.6
Ditto... this is highly annoying. Is aspyr perhaps going to do a patch for this problem as well? I have a ticket with them on it.
In the meantime, How do you revert to an older version of QT without hosing your system? I'd rather not do a nuke and pave. I just want to fricken' play Civ 4 again!!
I'm having a similar problem with one of my games after doing the 7.6 Quicktime update. Immediately after updating my Sims 2 game is no longer working. It worked fine before the update and now it does nothing at all. I click on the icon in the dock and it just bounces a couple times and then nothing.
@Cyclophile: Well, according to "patstats" in this other thread "Quicktime 7.6 causes Sims 2 crash" (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1877067&tstart=0), Aspyr is aware of the problem and working on a fix. Wish I had better news than that, but at least it's something.
Sound Shuffler was the culprit for me too. Once I removed it, everything worked fine.
Bummer. Sound Shuffler is a very cool little toy. If anyone knows of a comparable program that will do what it does, PLEASE let me know. The developer (No U-Turn) no longer supports it, so I doubt we'll ever see an update.
I do not have any of the 3rd party programs mentioned so far in this thread, but my Call of Duty 2 will not open. Apparently when I reinstalled QuickTime 7.5.5 it left some vestiges of 7.6 and, of course what was apparently left seems to be the culprit for my COD2. Using Pacifist I can identify a directory and file now on my hard drive that is NOT part of the QT 7.5.5 package, but does seem to be part of the 7.6 package. To wit:
/.
/.DS_Store
Anyone recognize either of these? How do I delete these from my hard drive? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
