Quicktime 7.6 Problem in OS 10.4.11

Tiger 10.4.11
Just downloaded Quicktime 7.6. Finder now jumps to front window every 2 minutes or so, preempting any other program. How can I get back to 7.5.5 which worked fine?

Randy,

I'm also experiencing sims 2 not launching (granted its not the same game, but same publisher and others are also having same problems). The files that you mention your post as still being there after you "pacified" your machine:

/.
/.DS_Store

These are both "invisible" files which are used by mac os x for some purpose or other and are not of any interest to you as they appear in every directory (or folder) of your system, to illustrate that, try copying a random folder of images or text files to a usb stick and then try to open the stick on a windows machine (tho your usb stick will need to be formatted as FAT 16 or FAT 32 to read on windows), then you'll the ".ds_store" files.

In any case, even if you could delete them, which you can't without some fancy software that will show you hidden files, they're almost certainly guaranteed to have no effect on the issue at hand.

As far as I can see, there only these options left:

1. wait for apple to produce Quicktime patch 7.6.1 or whatever

2. wait for aspyr to produce patches for our games

3. archive and install a new system (which is not a real option and will cause waaay too many problems to be worth the effort.

Sorry, this really *****.

""It seems all to be linked to Stuffit and a preference called Stuffit AVR (Archive Via Rename): In your system preferences go to the bottom and click on the Stuffit AVR option. Click the Stuffit AVR tab
on the left, and click the "STOP" button. This should do the trick. For some reason this is cycling through our desktop/finder and causing so much of the frustration since this update.""

Reading through the threads lead me to my fix!
I had Stuffit 10 and this was causing the whole issue for the last 7 days.
After turning this bad-boy off, the FINDER is now stable and behaving!!

Since installing QT 7.6 Word and Excel 2004 crash with a BAD_EXC exception in Quicktime at EVERY start.

I used pacifist to downgrade to 7.5.5. No help.

I deleted caches, checked fonts. No help.

I have stuffit AVR installed, but that option to archive on rename is already disabled.

I have Flip4Mac, latest version. I removed the add-in modules from the quicktime add-in folders and that didn't help.

I reinstalled the 10.4.11 combo update.

Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

For me the problem with Stuffit AVR manifested itself in the following appearing right after restart:

The application ??? quit unexpectedly.

Turning off Stuffit AVR cures it.

I'm posting it here for search purposes, since a search of the Discussions forum revealed no posts with this specific wording.

Stuffit AVR is bad stuff.

If I load in safe boot OR I create a new user and log out of my many account and into the new account, Word will open fine.

In my main login account it still crashes. Every time.
