iMovie '09 Green Screen?

Hello all of you who have purchased iLife '09.

Could any of you post a video on YouTube or explain here how the green screen effect works in iMovie?

I created a green jpeg in a Photoshop-like program (GIMP), made it a background in PhotoBooth, and recorded some video. Do I need to use a real, physical green screen or will this virtual one do? Maybe that's why it's causing everything to fade??

Thanks for the help! I actually used a makeshift green screen in my office...a green hanging file. Not too big, but it actually was able to project video and images on it. Now if only there was a way to scale video or photos in iMovie and move them where you'd like in the frame...

Maybe they will eventually add it. I would like a simple clone effect where you basically crop one video from one side to reveal a different video. This can be accomplished by green screen tho.

Well your digital green screens worked great.
My MacBook's isight and Photo Booth.
Ok they keyed great. Photo Booth gave me a few bullet holes thats because my background had some items in it.

really? I still can't get them to work. It's almost as if iMovie treats the whole clip of the green screen the same. If I hold up green paper, no problem there.

I just tried again and it actually worked! Don't know how. I just moved my laptop a few degrees the other way and there I go. I used the same digital backdrops from before with PhotoBooth and iSight camera. Maybe the lighting was slightly off, but I can't tell the difference. At least it works. Thanks for the help.

Glad to hear. And your welcome. Maybe iMovie had a problem with the clips or iMovie read them wrong say it got confused. glad it worked out. By the way remember the color wheel in the adjustments tab it also can effect the green screen output.

How do you make this a background in photobooth. Do you just drag and drop it to one of the empty place holders

Before investing in a real green screen, try turning up the lights. You could change your shirt, to something that contrasts with green more, like blue or black or red, preferably a solid color.

But the real problem, based on the image you posted, is that the scene is too dark. You need to increase the lighting and thus the green of your background will be more green. With it being as dark as it is, the background color looks close to the color of your shirt, even though they are not the same actual color.
