Post 2.2.1 upgrade iPhone / iTunes sync crashes iTunes

I upgraded my 3G iPhone to v2.2.1 today after taking a backup.

Following an incident free upgrade - sync'ing the iPhone produces a crash in iTunes during the application sync section.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks

Hi,

I was have the same issue with syncing where only Applications and Photos go through, found a solution and wanted to share 🙂

Tried on the MacBook Aluminum also running 10.5.6 and iTunes 8.1.1 and no problems.

So using information found on this post ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8504951) which mentioned reinstalling iTunes and made reference to the iPhone config. utility (which I installed recently) this is how I solved the problem:

The post mentioned deleting the following folders and reinstalling iTunes:
/System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DeviceLink.framework
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework
/Library/Receipts/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg

I made a backup of the Frameworks and deleted ONLY the Frameworks from /System/Library.
Reinstalled iTunes and the Frameworks were recreated 🙂

Opened iTunes, hit Sync and everything worked perfectly.

I've done everything under the sun, including all that you mentioned. all with the help of an apple tech level 2 ,I believe,. It works a couple of times then problem comes back again!!! WHENEVER I PHONE IS CONNECTED THROUGH A USB PORT ITUNES FREEZES. WHETHER I TUNES IS OPEN BEFORE OR AFTER THE CONNECTION.all since upgrade to 8.1.1 APPLE engineers are suppose to get back to me with a fix!!! april 20th, 2009.
I can't believe Apple can't seem to create updates without screwing something up! seriously considering switching back to palm or blackberry. Had been using Palm OS platforms for 2 decades never encountered the problems I'v had with iphone since I purchased it several months ago. Hours of my life I'll never get back!!

The solution that finally worked for me was to delete ALL podcasts from the iphone (using the swipe-right move to show the delete box), then try to sync yet again. I believe the culprit podcast was one downloaded direct to the iphone.

- fix described under item 32 on:
http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/iphone-software-221-causing-itune s-crashes/P20/

I have previously reset the iphone, restarted the Mac, uninstalled & reinstalled iTunes, de-authorised the iMac for iTunes & re-authorised it, deleted ALL non-essential Apps, sworn, sweated & palpitated all to no good effect - riven with the fear of a complete iphone failure without the possibility of a restore from iTunes....

Before YOU try anything too heavy, try deleting Podcasts from the phone (starting with any recent ones downloaded direct to the phone)!

Good luck!

Hi,

Looks like the problem is back: my iPhone 3G running 3.0 started crashing as described in the thread after I downloaded a free piece of TopGear.
The workaround with deauthorise/authorise trick did not work. I have also tried to delete all the podcasts, as suggested in one the links mentioned in the thread, and even deleted all the apps - no changes, still crashes. The only trick, which gets me 'round is to deauthorise my MacBook permanently - after that I can synch all but the Apps.

Regards, Jarek.

Thanks for posting the delete PodCasts fix. This worked for me too. I had the same problem where iTunes crashed during sync.
Previously I had tried uninstalling, deleting all config files, re-installing. Then doing the same to version 7.7 - told me needed version 8.
Then upgrading again to version 8.2.
Then doing the de-authorise/authorise, free app.
None of this worked - 5 hours of my life gone 😟
But just deleting PodCasts did 🙂 So thank you!
