Nope - no crashes, and everything is Ok, as well. Try shutting the iPhone completely off, by holding the top button down until you see it flash off, wait a minute and turn it back on.
Yes, I'm experiencing the same, super-frustrating problem. I installed 2.2.1 yesterday on my 3G and it was fine until today. Tried to manage some songs and install an app. Songs on iPhone became corrupt and now can't sync apps or load music on iPhone without iTunes crashing. And this still happens post iPhone restore and iTunes re-install. Now stuck with an iPhone where basic built-in functions work, but nothing else can be loaded...!
I was about to restore my iPhone (my least favorite activity) and reset all my ringtones, etc. when Scott stated that he tried that and now has zilch on his iPhone and still can't sync it.
Thanks to Scott I avoided having an empty handset.
Since v2.2.1 has been out for a bit I'm surprised that this hasn't been reported by more folks. 3 of us in just an hour or so is ominous.
I'll hold off doing a full reset/restore until more info comes to light.
Thanks for kicking this off Alex! Some further details on my 2+ hours of trial and error, trying unsuccessfully to solve this problem.
My issue seemed to be triggered by attempting to delete some songs on my iPhone. Delete seemed to be progressing until iTunes hung (spinning beach ball) and finally crashed/quit. "Submit error report to Apple" dialog appeared and I have been submitting them pretty much each time it happens. Looking at iPhone, songs in question appeared to still be there, but interestingly album art was replaced by completely unrelated podcast album art. Song track times listed correctly, but when played it just skipped through each track in a second. So some corruption occurred at some point that might have triggered all this. After restoring, no apps will fully sync (if you select just one app, it will appear to install until nearly done, then iTunes crashes). No music will copy without triggering a crash. Interestingly, personal data (contacts, texts, etc) for built-in apps restored fine.
I believe the only thing I installed on my G5 between yesterday (when all seemed well) and today was iLife Media Browser Update.
Let's hope we see 2.2.2 very, very soon. I want my iPhone back! 😉
More followup, Tech support had me do all kinds of things with the syn server settings but to no avail. Also reinstalled Itunes and still crashes. Itunes syncs fine with my Apple TV. With Iphone now each time I sync it manages to load one application before crashing. So I am up to like 4 apps out of 20 an not songs or music....
I have completely turned off the automatic sync of iPhones & iPods. Yet when I plug the iPhone in with iTunes running, the iPhone goes into sync mode, the small sync icon appears next to the name in the iTunes left menu bar, but the iTunes status window (top) does not indicate a sync.
That happens for 20-30 seconds and then the sync icon disappears from iTunes and the iPhone.
Approximately 1 minute later the iPhone goes into sync mode (no indication in iTunes) and iTunes crashes.
All this without selecting sync in iTunes and showing the "automatically sync..." selection unselected and grayed out.
So I tried hooking up my old 1st gen iphone which has 2.0 on it and it also crashed! Not sure what that tells us? Did the 2.2.1 process somehow cause something to go wrong with itunes that now makes it always crash? Something in our settings file? Very very very frustrating.
I am having the same problems with not just my Iphone, but now my 160GB Ipod. I downloaded the new software, and everything seemed fine. I went to rent a movie in the Itunes store. When I tried to synch the movie to my Iphone, I received numerous error messages before finally being told that a movie can not be synched with this Ipod. I then tried to synch it on my 160GB and received the same message, and also received 100 additional errors. I had just synched it prior to downloading the Iphone update with no problems. I logged off, shut down, all to no avail. Something is seriously wrong.
Same issue with both an original iPhone and iPhone 3G. Updated the 3G to 2.2.1. First sync failed when it tried to install an app. Deleted apps and it made it past app install only to fail when it went to next part of the sync. Later trying to connect old iPhone (2.2) wouldn't sync. Glad to see I'm not alone...
definitely not alone. i have been able to download some key apps directly via the phone and that works fine, but none of my music or pics. Not sure how itunes is managing to get messed up by this.... lets hope someone out their comes up with something
Hi
Here is another one that has the same experience. Very useful to have this discussion forum. Really hope that Apple can fix the bug.
