I am getting a Multiplexer error after rendering a movie from IDVD. The project is 7GB in the "project info" screen. When I open the folder in "documents" it says its size it 92 KB. "Project info" says I have over 60 GB available. ? Do I need an external hard drive? Am I out of memory? Thank you!!
We've been having this issue here at the station, on two different computers.
Changing DVDs has no effect; I'm sorry to say that was simply a coincidence.
Altering settings/turning off all other programs/turning off screen saver is equally pointless and has no effect.
The only thing that solved it for us was simply outlasting the problem. We kept restarting the process, addressing the error by acknowledging it, allowing permissions, etc. After a while, the computer seemed to "get it" and stopped having the issue.
However, I am relatively certain that this wasn't an actual solution, either, but rather just another coincidence.
Apples have this great reputation of being wonder boxes, but they're just computers, subject to the same foibles, glitches and bugs as any other computer, PC or not.
My only advice is to make a tiny two-minute program to test it on, run it over and over until the computer gets its head out of its ASCII and starts working right. Maybe it will, maybe it won't, but you won't have to wait for four hours for the issue to show up.
Yes, this is incredibly frustrating. After successfully burning several projects a few weeks ago, I'm now having 100% failure the last two projects I tired (saving as disk image). Could it be related to the most recent iLife update?
Tried rebooting, changing themes, repairing permissions, building iDVD project from scratch, (which actually worked for me once before with another problem where the project wouldn't even start to encode)
iDVD '09 (7.0.4 - Build 1116), Professional quality, Exported as 'Media Browser' from iMovie. Last try was encoding for 7.5 hours, only to fail with 3 minutes to go. (Plenty of HD space).
I got my burns to work. Even though I had less than 2 hours of material in my projects, it was too much for 'Professional Quality'. Bumping the encoder down to 'High Quality' did the trick and the results look fine.

That is unusual.....did you make any other changes that might have affected the burn? Professional Quality is supposed to take longer and make more 'passes' to burn the disk. I have not come across anything suggesting that this setting would fail to burn, but that 'High Quality' would work.

+When you select Best Performance, iDVD encodes your video in the background as you’re working on your project instead of waiting until you burn it. This can significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to create a finished DVD. This is a good choice if your project is an hour or less in duration (for a single-layer disc). You’ll finish your project more quickly, and the encoding quality will be excellent for the amount of video you have.+
+Best Performance encodes your video at a preset bit rate that produces great quality for projects that can easily fit on your disc. If you have a larger project that needs to be squeezed onto a disc, you should select one of the other encoding options.+

With this setting, iDVD chooses the best bit rate possible for the amount of data you need to fit onto your disc. I did try to burn by using File One step DVD from Movie as i try not to use themes but when you hit ADVANCED the DELETE ENCODED ASSETS is not highlighted if you have found a way round this i would appreciate help. Thanks again BRILIN
I also got this error, multiplexer error, especially a layerbreak error..
my solution was to have a ridiculous amount of free HD space.. Keep over 100gb free (my project was 46 minutes). even though there was no error message, i suspect it might be writing to the disk and getting errors...
I suspect either writing to DVD directly or saving disk image, iDVD will first encode and write to the HD and you need to have space available.
