Hello. I am new to this forum. I have had my iPhone 3G for 10 days. Initially it played YouTube videos flawlessly, at least via safari..... But now they never load completely. Bookmarked ones from my computer totally refuse to play. I talked to rogers support and they said YouTube has claimed to have connectivity problems with iPhone for several days......so there is some hope that this issue will resolve. It is indeed disappointing and frustating.

I am so ****** off with my iPhone right now. Got it in November, worked fine. Then December. Can't send text messages (a known issue that has still not been fixed). Have spent at least 8 HOURS on the phone with AT&T and apple and drove TO AN APPLE STORE and STILL COULD NOT FIX IT. Now, two days ago, I get this message. My iPhone is falling apart. I'm so angry right now that I don't know what I'm going to do.

Been monitoring this thread for quite sometime now. I am in the same boat and couple of things that I would like to point out.

1) Bookmarked videos wont play. For the last couple of days some have played and some have not.

2) Featured, Most viewed, Search videos, only a few are not playing.

3) Tried Resetting Network Settings. No luck.

4) Called Apple and they have no clue on this. Suggested to Restore the phone as new phone. I will never do this. I dont have time to spend 2 hrs again.

5) Tried opening the videos that wouldnt play on the native App by opening YouTube.com on Safari and works perfectly fine. I have been using this method for a while now. Its pain, better than going through the process of Restoring.

Quite a Bizzare problem, Apple and YouTube are both aware and are working the solution as this is a worldwide problem. Seems to be a very low level problem within the iphone. Unknown what caused the issue. everyone has different symptoms. I have 2 Iphones. One plays Youtube just fine, the problem hasnt been triggered on that one yet, unknown why, but it is a lesser used phone and I update it less freqently. The other phone plays some Youtube videos, but not others (which once played) showing the "this movie could not be played". Safari works for these videos (so it would indicate not a Youtube problem, but something the iphone is doing on the youtube app) but some report safari youtube site shows same issues. All attempts to reboot fails to fix, some people find restore fixes, others it fails to fix. Searching the web, it has been a on-off issue for some years, but Feb seems to have activated the majority of the worldwide issues on this round. Wifi and Edge showing same symptoms. Suggested approach, use Safari if it works for you, and await the apple fix.

It is now March 1st, and I am still having this same problem on three iTouch units. Apple claims it was a regional problem in the Arizona area, and that it should be fixed by now. But, it is NOT fixed. Problem still exists as before. My Apple Case manager has not returned three messages left over the past week. Getting frustrated. Any updated news on this issue? YouTube, which is now owned by Google, does not offer any support.

Hi guys,
Speaking from manchester in the UK and i bought my iphone a couple of weeks ago. YouTube was working perfectly up until yesterday (28th feb 2009). i was out with a few friends and wanted to search for a video whilst connected to a local wireless network and got the same "this movie cannot be played" message. at first i thought it may be due to the wireless network, but then i tried using 3G and also my home wireless network both of which had not let me down previously, but the result was the same.
Im reluctant to restore and reset my iphone mainly because of the amount of time itll take to get it back to how it is now with the data lol.

i hope apple and youtube can sort this out soon! i think i speak for everyone on here when i say we have spent ALOT of money on buying this thing so we expect it to work as advertised!

thanks

Apple told me that it is a problem with the You Tube servers and they have been trying to fix it for the last week. The CSR I spoke with offered no solution but to wait it out. BTW, my daughter's iphone, when connected to the same wifi or 3G at the same time and place as mine, will play videos that mine will not. Also, mine will play the same ones that can't be played through the iphone app when I log on to You Tube through MSN Mobile. The inconsistency, I was told by the Apple CSR, is what is causing the delay in getting this problem fixed!

I have both an iPphone and an iPod Touch. The iPod can play the YouTube movies that the iPhone used to play and now will not. It's as if once the iPhone had tried to play a movie that gives this problem, it will no longer play the movie. Whereas, the iPod Touch will -- because I never encountered the problem in the first place with it.

Both devices are connected to the same WiFi router.

Does the YouTube app cache in some weird way?

Both devices are at the current upgrade (2.2.1)

This would, therefore, appear to be a client-side problem.

This movie could not be played - YouTube
