Iphone Exchange Calendar Synch Issues

Deeply grateful if someone can give me some assistance. We are nearly ready to switch to Blackberry as it seems to synch fine now.

We recently purchased an iphone 3g and want to synch it with our exchange server. We use the Exchange synch utility on the iphone, enter the information, and things seem to synch up...

but...we have missing events, meaning they show up in outlook but they dont show up on the iphone....i would say on any given day, we will be missing at least 1 out of 8.....

an interesting tidbit which must mean something, but what i cant quite figure out is that if i open the outlook client of the user who is missing appointments, click and open the missing appointment, and then just close it out, almost always it will show up on the iphone....

this is bizarre behavior...so, about 90% of the events/appts show up, 10 % dont, but if I open them on the outlook client, almost always the event will show up in a few minutes....any ideas?

Same issue here - random appointments in outlook not showing up on iPhone.

Running:
MS-Server 2K3
Exchange 2K3
Outlook 2K7
iPhone 3G (3.1.3)

So far I've only seen this issue with a small number of users, which are Execs with the same Admin Assistant who is set up as a delegate and can edit their calendars. We manually searched and identified appointments that did not push to the iPhone but were not able to find a common denominator between them. I have tested several "methods" for how appointments are created in these user's calendars (added by user on user's workstation, added by delegate from delegate's workstation, copied, moved, etc.) to see if that made a difference but was not able to replicate the issue.

I'll post if I make any headway, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,
i have searched for a while, finding an answer. I've the same problem as described above.
Today i have updated my iphone to ios4, so now there are all contacts and all events on my iphone, but i've tried to create a new event in outlook, then pressing F9 (sync with Exchange), nothing happens. I opened the event, then ctrl+s (saving), then "Save and Close" the event, flupp the event is on the iphone.
That's a workarround for me, but for the whole company it's not the best solution.
Knows anyone a better solution...???
many thanks.

One thing we did until we upgraded our server was to instruct users to open and accept calendar appointments in Outlook even if the appointment said "no response required" and since most of the missing appointments came from our exec office we instructed his assistants to always request a response when sending new appointments or changing existing ones. Worked perfectly when people followed the rules.

Hi Everyone,

I too am having the same issue and I have found a handful of workarounds that have seemed to help.

1. This is a new iOS 4 profile for Exchange. This has worked on my 3G running iOS 4.2

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3398

2. The 2 weeks back sync setting has had little or no effect

3. I found that custom categories created in Outlook 2007 client connected to an Exchange 2003 server environment are to blame as well when I had our Executive Assistant remove categories then appointments began to appear.

Hope this helps.

I finally found and applied a fix for our environment. No more lost calendar items.

Situation: Exchange 2003 SP2, Outlook 2007 clients, mostly affecting users with hundreds of calendar items and/or users who had admins who managed their calendar, numerous edits, changes, declines, accepts, the works

The Fix: Read this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969254
and this,

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938650/

Summary: Exchange 2003 is not playing nice with new devices like the iPhone. Migrate to 2010 asap where you'll encounter other issues unimaginable but at least the executive staff won't be mad at you for losing their appointments.

Why yes! yes I have. The CEO of all people is not showing "on behalf of" calender appointments. Such as, her secretary enters in an appoint for the CEO and it shows up in outlook, as an appointment made by the secretary, on behalf of, the CEO. But no, not on the iPhone 4 with 4.2.1.

I called apple support and the person I talked to said that apple is aware of the issues and says M$ is to blame and they are waiting on M$ to fix it. On top of that, from what I have gathered, reading various posts on the net, apple only tests its iOS's against exchange 2007 and 2010. More or less apple is saying upgrade. 😟

Re the couple MS KB articles above, if you're looking for the latest Exchange 2003 SP2 hotfix, I believe that it's this one, containing v6.5.7655.11 of the key files. They should contain all the fixes addressed in other articles with earlier versions and give you the best shot at the fewest AS issues possible without upgrading to a major new Exchange version.

I am also researching an issue we are having with Exchange 2007 and iOS 4 where one recurring appointment is not syncing to an exec's iPhone. The appointment was an invitation sent to multiple users including the one in question and accepted by his admin assistant. It shows on her Outlook 2007 calendar and on the exec's Outlook 2011 for Mac calendar. The admin accepts recurring invititations for him often and those sync to the iPhone properly.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
