30" HD Cinema Display with Mini Port to Dual Link DVI Adapter
In Using the new MacBook Pro 17", 2.93 GHz and 8GB of Ram the 30" HD Display gives me problems. The only issue seems to be that when displaying black, there are extremely visible horizontal flickering lines on the screen. I am running in performance mode but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any suggestions?
I have used the same display since 2006 with a Quad G5, with no problems. The stripes appeared first time when I connected the display to my MacBook Pro. Maybe the display is incompatible with some Intel Macs, dunno... If you have the same problem without using the Mini Displayport to Dual-link DVI adapter, that kind of makes clear that the issue is not related to the adapter.
It would be nice to try if the problem appears with newer 30" Cinemas, but not so many Apple resellers have them unboxed in store to try out here in Finland... Have you had the opportunity to try out an another 30" Cinema?
I just noticed that turning the display off for a while removes the erros for a few seconds. Then they start coming back gradually. Anybody else notice the same?
I have an early MacPro (MacPro1,1 ; Dual-Core Intel Xeon ; 3 GHz).
The monitor randomly just goes BLACK even though the monitor light is on. I have to reboot. This started Nov 5, 2009 and has occurred 9 times since; can only reboot. Other times, entire screen freezes and I have to reboot, too.
BTW: my adapter already has firmware 1.02 and i have also received a replacement adapter via AppleCare which has the exact same problems.
Some times it seems, it depends on how the connector is seated within the MacBook makes a difference. Occasionally i am getting a flicker free signal, but most of the time, the interference on black is there.
I am also experiencing the black line problems on a brand new mac mini with this adapter. Apple please fix these problems!!! After a bit of research I see that a lot of people are having trouble. This is unacceptable from a company I buy a lot of products from.
I just bought a 27" i5 iMac and connected my 30" Cinema to it using my Dual Link DVI Adapter. (adapter fw 1.0.2) The same horizontal errors on black areas issue appeared shortly thereafter.
So, my lovely 30" Cinema is unusable on my both new Macs that require the adapter, but the display still forks fine with my old PowerMac G5 that doesn't require the Dual Link DVI Adapter.
Everything has been updated up-to-date on both macs, (10.6.3 and all fw updates applied). Informed Apple about the issue again, and was told that "engineers are working on the issue", and that I will be kept in touch.
Hi Kara_6,
Unfortunately, a screenshot does not show the problem. I think this is due to the fact that the screenshot only shows what the computer is outputting to the adapter/display, not the lines that show up do to the adapter. The only real way to show the problem would be to take a picture or video of the display from an external camera source... What a hassle.
Anyway, judging from the number of complaints, Apple must know about this problem. Apple - What is taking so long to issue a fix? Please just communicate with us!!!
