30" HD Cinema Display with Mini Port to Dual Link DVI Adapter

In Using the new MacBook Pro 17", 2.93 GHz and 8GB of Ram the 30" HD Display gives me problems. The only issue seems to be that when displaying black, there are extremely visible horizontal flickering lines on the screen. I am running in performance mode but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any suggestions?

I was able to make it work without flickering. It seems the problem is that the adapter needs more power than can be provided by standard USB port. I connected the USB cable that powers the adapter to USB charger for iPhone/Ipod (the USB plug you connect to the computer). The charger allows for higher current 1.0A instead of 500mA and that solved the problem of flickering. Of cource for USB ports on the 30' display to work you have to connect them to the Mac (use extension cable for the keyboard).
So far (a few months) it works.

I received my replacement Dual Link DVI adapter a few weeks ago, and noticed that it was also fw 1.02 just like the previous one I had issues with. So I was very suspicious...

But, after using the new adapter for a few weeks now, I have seen the horizontal lines on black areas only once, and they disappeared very soon. And I'm staring at the monitor about eight hours per day...

It seems like there are just lots of bad cables around, and the firmware version is not important.
For now I consider this issue solved, at least for me.

If the flickering problem appeard one time with your new adapter (which is still fw 1.02), it means that the problem is not yet solved on your computer !

To my side, since I updated to 10.6.3 (since avalaible), the flickering problem disappeared.

I have updated to 10.6.4 since avalaible, and I hope the flickering problem won't come back on my comptuer.

To be sure, I will change my wallpaper to a dark one (dark images proposed by apple by default) to test it !

Stay tuned.

That's right, a screenshot doesn't show the problem, you have to take a photo of it.
