Importing Cd's With iTunes 8.1 - Taking forever

Hello,

I have just updated to the new version of iTunes 8.1 and seem to be having some problems importing CD's. Its taking forever to import as I tried importing the new U2 album and it took about 45 minutes.

I've had a look at the import settings and its set to AAC Encoder and setting iTunes Plus, which I have not changed.

Is anybody having the same problems or know what is causing the problem?

I can't even believe that I am typing this...

I am ripping the latest Dream Theater CD using Windows Media Player instead of iTunes. It is going infinitely more quickly. At this rate, the entire CD (6 songs, 1.2 hours) will be done in less than 5 minutes.

In 10 minutes, iTunes hadn't completed the first song (16 minutes).

I'ts amazing that anything conceived by Microsoft is outperforming something created by Apple. I guess everyone is focusing on the iPhone, and nothing else matters.

Only downside - I'll have to manually enter some metadata.
