This is definitely NO driver- problem!
All of the drivers are there, all other programms are still working, the previous release of iTunes was working too and with the actual release 8.1 I can also only read/play Audio-CDs but cannot burn new ones.
I hope Apple will solve this problem as fast as possible.
Having the same problem- the drive's working fine with other burn applications, but it seems 8.1 can't detect the audio CD during diagnostics at all 😍 E-mail's on the way, hope there's a fix soon
Everyone, this is my second time with this problem, it occurred on one of the previous updates. The problem relates to the 'Burn' option called 'Include CD Text'. This is found in pop-up when selecting Burn CD. Make sure this is off, and try to burn a CD. If it still fails, check the box and try again, it most likely fail this time as well. This is the unbelievable part, try to burn a third time now turning off the option and on mine it worked! FYI, I did run the diagnostics recommended and I also did a Repair early in the process. If you have any questions please feel free to email me. I know this is confusing, but it really is related the to dreaded 'Include CD Text'
hey, you know, it's funny because i just ran the diagnostics and got the 'CD Text' solution. i thought i'd try it, regardless of the fact that that is one of the dumbest 'solutions' to a glitch i've ever encountered-let's make a program where one of the awesome new features disables the user's ability to USE said feature! good plan guys! anyway, i think my itunes knew i was going to turn off CD text, because now when i hit the 'burn' button, the 'CD Text' button is no longer high lighted, it's permanently on. ha ha! now i have to 'fix' the 'fix'!!! this is hilarious.
Okay, THIS time I came here first to see if there were any negative effects of upgrading...as all my previous upgrades messed with my ability to Burn CD's...
And it looks like this upgrade is no different... WTH?¿? Why does is EVERY freaking update to iTunes screw with peoples ability to Burn CD's?¿?
It seems like every time we find a way to get the Burn to "work" after a while a new update comes; and HOPING for a fix to our Burn situation it makes it worst... Well looks like i'll be keeping my 8.02 for now... I have a CD to burn...
Alright...I've checked for the drivers (both there and both current), tried changing settings, etc. and there is NOTHING wrong with my drives, they work fine with everything else. This is definitely an iTunes problem, something is wrong with the most recent update which destroyed the ability to burn anything. I sent an email to Roy (above) but haven't heard anything yet. It's my hope that they are creating an update to fix this problem so many of us are having at this point. And, by the way, I haven't found any way to turn CD text off as mentioned above...it is greyed out when you go to burn something.
This isn't a new problem to me, but it got worse today. The itunes registry filters conflict with other dvd/cd rom burning software registry entries (at least that's the analysis I got from Dell). Their answer is to 1) backup the registry entry, then 2) delete both the upper and lower filters, which in my case, did restore the functioning of the drive, however, I cannot burn a cd with anything other than the windows utility. Roxio doesn't see the drive at all, and itunes can't use the windows utility, so there's not way to burn a cd through itunes. There's an old article #305422 that addresses this, but it doesn't work. I too have replied to Roy, let's hope they can finally resolve this.
Dear all, I am having the same problem... itunes says no burning software detected and I can't burn cd's. I have uninstalled and installed itunes a thousand times, I even did the registry fix published here in the help sections, but nothing works...
Yes!! I am having all the same problems, I installed itunes 8.1 last night and tried burning a cd this morning and it couldn't detect an audio cd, it keeps checking the media but nothing happens. I need answers like yesterday.
The fact that some of you have the burn options grayed out might be that iTunes is not recognizing your drive. Try to run a repair, then a diagnostic and see if this fixes the problem. These are things I did today along the way to getting this to work. I will say it is still somewhat sporadic, I burned two CD's then received the error. When I ran the diagnostics burning resumed. I now have made four CD's in a row, maybe I should call the Guinness book of records people or just sit and have a quite Guinness to drink in stead. Happy Burning!
Hi Roy, I'm emailing this to you but here is my iTunes diagnostic information.

The last failed audio CD burn had error code 4450(0x00001162). It happened on drive E: PHILIPS CDRW/DVD SCB5265 on CDRW media at speed 10X.
So, is this going to be fixed or are we all just going to have to wait until someone stumbles across the repair and feels like sharing ?
Starting to seriously think about using my I Pods for fishing line sinkers
saaaaaaaame problem. updated to 8.1 last night (which was apparently a mistake) and now i can't burn cds. can't run diagnostics because itunes tells me that it can't find the audio cd. really wish someone who knew what was up would share with us.
oh, like a couple other people on here with XP, i also can't check/uncheck the 'cd text' option. totally greyed out.
