MacBook Battery Won't Charge...Get "Not Charging"

Hi all...did an SMC Reset...didn't work...reseated the batter, etc. When I plug in the mag, it is constantly green but the laptop cannot run without power cable and I get the "Not Charging" near the top.

Anyone have new info on this...frustrated...battery is just over a year old.

I got exactly the same problem. Left my perfectly functioning MacBook (Nov. 2007) at home during one week vacation. When I came home the battery wouldn't charge... And speaking to apple support they can't help me, since my macbook isn't covered by the extended guarantee - only thing to do is buy a new battery. But is seems this is happening to more people than me all around. I'm waiting a bit to see if Apple won't extend the battery guarantee on this too.

Never experienced a battery behave like this before, and I am disappointed...

Today, and from one day to another, the battery on my early 2008 MacBook (2.4 GHz, purchased September 2008) stopped charging. Did all the steps recommended by Apple but still won't charge. I'll be taking it to my Apple retailer but still thought I'd add to this list.

Hey guys,

I had exactly the same problem with my 2.5 year old macbook battery. Thought it because my gf had abused the mac or the battery had simply worn down over time but popped my mac into my local apple store and the genius there was really helpful. Basically, Apple recognized a fault with some batteries on macbooks built around 2006-2007ish where the batteries just fail completely very early. My battery had only 175 charge cycles which is very low. Apple subsequently extended the warranty on these up to 2+ years despite the computer itself being way out of warranty. So today Mr Apple Genius in Sheffield plugged his little dongle into my mac, booted it up from his special Battery Utility tool provided by apple bigwigs in california, saw that my battery was knackered and simply gave me a brand spanking new one. No questions. No fuss and a big apology to go with it.

If you have this problem with your mac, just contact Apple. Even if you don't have an Apple Store near you just give them a call or drop them an email. They've recognized there WAS a problem with some of these products and have sorted it.

Top class customer service is rare these days but on the very few occasions i've had to use Apple's they have astounded me with their efficiency.

Give them a call, nothing to loose and possibly a brand spanking new battery to gain.

I have a Apple care protection plan and I called them and they are sending me a free battery. This makes me a little happier because I was pretty frustrated when I came back and discovered that my battery died from not using it for weeks.

I have had the exact same problem. Left the MacBook uncharged for about 4 weeks and the battery died completely on me - 131 cycles only. Nothing like a lower power retention problem or anything - just dead!
Called Apple customer service and chatted with Steven - a Apple Product Specialist. He told me the same thing - your laptop is not under warranty so they cant do anything for me. I asked him for escalation inside Apple and he said that he would talk to someone in engineering - but for me not to hold my breath.
I suggest all of you call Steven at his direct number: 1-877-388-0879 x.85807 and ask him to fix it or escalate it!

Add one more to the list of people this is happening to.

MacbookPro with battery device ASMB012. I've got a mere 52 cycles and I've always made sure to do a discharge and recharge at least once a month as recommended by Apple. My battery life was 3-4 hours, but the last time I used it I didn't put it back on the charger for 2-3 days. It only had about 30% battery left and I put it in sleep mode. Apparently it drained itself all the way down to 0% and the battery defect took hold after that and now it refuses to charge.

I have a lot higher voltage than a lot of others here – about 9-10 vs 4-5. I think if we had a way of doing a higher voltage charge to the battery just to get it up a bit higher would allow our batteries to charge again. That's how most lithium ion batteries work, and I believe lithium polymers are similar.

Apple product specialist was pretty rude saying there wasn't anything they could do because the battery is a consumable product and refused to acknowledge there was a problem with how it died. This is the kind of support you get for buying a premium priced computer. Apple commands 90% of the > $1,000 computer market and they refuse to have a decent warranty period or customer service? Pretty ridiculous.

I have the same problem.
MacBook without powersupply for 1 week and the battery is out of order (Cycles: 51; 19 month!).
But I think the problem is the controller. I opened the battery and charged each cell separately.
Now it has over 10V, but if I remove the powersuppy the Mac switchs off.
Is there a way to reset the internal battery-controller?

Andreas

I had exactly the same problem, it was back in december though. after my macbook had been switched off for a couple of months, came back and the battery doesn't charge nor show up on the screen - just an X over the battery icon. phoned Apple but the said it didn't come under the extended warranty scheme. also v annoyed as my hard drive has just failed again (the reason i'm searching around in the forums) after getting it replaced a year and a half ago. really not impressed with apple right now.

Hi, my white Macbook is 2yrs and 9 months old.

I now have the Not charging message.

Here is my battery information:

Model Information:
Manufacturer: DP
Device name: ASMB013
Pack Lot Code: 0001
PCB Lot Code: 0000
Firmware Version: 0102
Hardware Revision: 0300
Cell Revision: 0100
Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 3911
Fully charged: No
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 4432
Health Information:
Cycle count: 446
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -68
Voltage (mV): 12144

The cycle count is at 446, do you think the Genuis bar will consider this defective, and replace the battery under my Applecare?
