MacBook Battery Won't Charge...Get "Not Charging"

Hi all...did an SMC Reset...didn't work...reseated the batter, etc. When I plug in the mag, it is constantly green but the laptop cannot run without power cable and I get the "Not Charging" near the top.

Anyone have new info on this...frustrated...battery is just over a year old.

Add me to the list of affected batteries. I got my Blackbook in December 2006, but it's still had about a 2.5 hour charge until yesterday. I left it for a 6 day vacation, however it WAS charged when I left. Now it says "Battery not charging" and status: "Replace Now". I tried an SMC reset, PRAM reset, and NVRAM reset - and nothing worked.

I'll see if there's anything Apple can do for me.

Looks like a healthy battery to me...but what do I know. Apple, you're losing my business forever in the PC department. Just because you ignore the hundreds (thousands more likely) of complaints about your shoddy ******** hardware, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU TOUT YOURSELF AS A HARDWARE COMPANY, does not mean they don't exist. I want to meet mr. jobs then take my otherwise pristine macbook pro and break it over his head.

Had same problem earlier today for 1st time. After reading a few posts found the solution.

*Unplug adapter from computer and wall socket
*Take out battery, Hold button on battery until lights come on and go off
*Hold down power button on mac without battery for 10 seconds
*Plug adapter back into wall and comp without battery and start computer(the lights on plug started to work again)
*Boot up complete, turn-off, unplug adapter, put battery back in
Plug in adapter then restart computer.

Works now!

Hi All,

Came back from a weekend away to discover I'm having exactly the same problem. I've tried all the fixes including:

- Removing the battery and replacing as per instructions
- Freezing the battery
- All the various resets

None work - the battery is still screwed

I've ordered a new battery (not an apple official one - I figure why pay for Apple quality when their batteries fail after 336 cycles!) and if it works I'll be happy, if it lasts longer I'll post the results here.

My second apple disappointment in a week - had the 'Other' file problem on an Ipad and ended up doing a factory reset.

I have a MacBook late 2008, bought in Mar 2009. Until last day worked it perfectly, the battery after 130 cycles worked cca. 3,5-4 Hours with a charging. Yesterday I noticed that the LED doesn't turn orange from green . I tried to unplug the charger and plug in again, but after several attempt the LED falled dead. The battery's charge was 46% at the evening, I keeped plugged in the power adapter for the night. In the morning the battery's charging reached 76%, but no more (the indicator LED was constantly turned off). Of course I checked the Magsafe adaptor, which is working fine with my other macbook (pro).

I took my computer to an Apple Authorized Service today. They checked first the battery and said OK for that. They continued the examination, tried to replace the macbook's magsafe connector, but shortly found the main board dead. I'm very frustrated since my macbook isn't 2 years old yet and the estimated repair cost may reach 5-600 USD, which is close to or over the machine's current value.

You are a life saver, aggolfer. That TOTALLY worked. For the sake of posterity, below is what my battery information said when it wasn't charging despite being plugged in. Notice that my battery's condition said "Good" whereas others are getting "Check Battery" or "Replace Now."

The problem has happened occasionally to my MacBook Pro over the past month. I took it to a Apple retailer today as it started to completely switch off. The charger pins were inset and this was assumed as the problem. I bought a new charger for £60. There is no light from the charger although it was there early this afternoon. The guy at the store said my battery was healthy too:
