Apple Hot News Headlines - not working?

If this was suggested already (or you already tried) I apologize, but have you tried to create a new user on your Mac and tested the page there?

Also, to your knowledge, have you installed any plug-ins for Safari.

Hi Eric,

I have a 15-inch, 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB hard drive, late 2008, unibody MacBook Pro notebook.

I run Mac OS X 10.5.6 and Boot Camp, with a Windows XP Professional, with SP2, partition.

I have experienced the same issue in IE, Firefox, and Safari on both operating systems.

I receive the following decoding error too.

+ http://images.apple.com/global/scripts/drawers.js - cannot decode+

I have just noticed this issue after having read this thread. I had experienced this before on an earlier MacBook Pro, and it had been resolved by having an email sent to the following contact.

Eric, LukeD sent out a bat signal in the Late 2008 MBP forum as well, so there may be additional feedback there from some of us.

It is starting to look like this may be font related.

In your post history, it shows that you were both attempting to install Open Type Fonts. Have you attempted to remove any added fonts on your system (or disabling them if you installed via a font manager like Font Book).

I do not believe that it is a font issue on my end, as I have since completely reinstalled Windows, and I only use the generic fonts that come with Windows.

That would also not explain having experienced the same issue in Mac OS X.

Eric, do you suspect specific OpenType fonts? If so, which? I just dug through my discs and installed a few .otf fonts with Font Book, and the Hot News page still loads normally (after a log out/in so the new fonts were available system-wide). Also, as Luke points out, this should not affect accessing the page from a browser running in Windows.

I have just tested it on Safari on my MacBook Air, and I have found the same issue.

Specific ones, not really. Just grasping at straws since both users posted having difficulty with the same Hot News issue and also having the same difficulties adding fonts.

This is off the wall but I'm also grasping at straws.

Have you checked your your Firewall and Anti-Virus configurations for possible strange entries?

Also, the fact that it worked on the Japanese site.

Just as a test, could you open Font Book and select all your fonts, then go to File and Validate Fonts. This will show if any bad or duplicate fonts are installed that may be causing problems.
