aosnotifyd?

Hi, I'm just curious: What is the "aosnotifyd application"? When I start-up or re-start my computer, I am asked to give my "login" keychain passwords for various items. I know what most of these are for (iWeb, Mobile Me, Mail, etc.). But "aosnotifyd" is unfamiliar to me and I was wondering if anyone could explain what it is and why I have to "login" to it?

Thank you!

The aosnotifyd process is your Mac syncing with the MobileMe servers (e.g. for 'push' email/calendars, etc.) - it's asking to use your keychain to access your MobileMe password stored in the keychain.

I had the same problem on my 2007 Mac Pro. It seemed to start after upgrading to Snow Leopard. No "always allow" button on the password requests for aosnotifyd, and the prompt was appearing after every startup (not when waking from sleep though). I tried a lot of things to fix it from suggestions I came across, including Keychain First Aid, and forcing the addition aosnotifyd into my main keychain, even though aosnotifyd is normally hidden. Nothing helped.

I was about to try more drastic steps, but I just tried simply dragging the keychain item for MobileMe into the "login" keychain (instead of my main keychain), clicked "Always Allow", and so far that has fixed it. I think there might be multiple ways to trigger this bug, but if you are seeing this prompt right after startup, try making sure MobileMe is in the "login" keychain instead of any other keychains. Just wanted to post another suggestion in case this helps anyone else.

I've tried everything in this thread including running FIrst Aid on my Keychain, ensuring aosnotifyd has access to the MobileMe keychain item, and even going as far as completely destroying the login keychain and deleting all entries in the System keychain. I still get the message. I did recreate the login keychain with the same name, but I just can't believe it still is asking for it. Really annoying.

For those having trouble with the solution by James (which works well), I'll add to his steps to simply and recap:

1) In Keychain access double click on the "MobileMe password" entry *(mobile me has more than one entry if you mount your idisk, so make sure you're choosing the right one by the " Kind" column.)*
2) Switch to the "access control panel" and click on the "+" to add an app.
*2.5) Press "shift-command-." +(this will show invisible files. note that command = apple key)+*
3) Navigate to /usr/sbin (you may have to use the Finder's "Go To Folder" entry and drag this folder to the open window
4) Select "aosnotifyd"

PS:
-For 10.5, step 3 might require navigating to: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AOSNotification.framework/Versions/A/Resource s/
to find the program.
-Little Snitch is also not directly related for the keychain issue, but if you've told LS to block access, the functionality of aosnotifyd won't work at all.

I've read every post and I'm still getting the "aosnotifyd" dialog box at every startup wanting my password.

• copied program asonotifyd to (correct) Mobile Me Keychain apps. (I had to go to the framework and copy the alias.)
• Selected Always Allow
• In system prefs/ Mobile Me/sync I've unchecked Keychain
• BTW command shift did not show invisible files
FYI:
So can ANYBODY help me with the ridiculously annoying problem?

I, too, am suffering from this, and none the fixes listed here seems to have solved the problem.

I can re-create 100% of the time by doing a mobileme sync, then putting my MBP to sleep, then waking up. Instantly, aosnotifyd wants my login password.

Twice this week, it has kicked me out of a Keynote I was giving, which is HUGELY annoying.

Hugely frustrated...

Actually I may have solved my particular issue, which was happening only after putting the machine to sleep and the waking it up.

I right clicked on the keychain in question ("login" in my case, which is my default keychain). That gave me the option to change the setting. The option for "Lock when sleeping" was ticked, so I unticked it. Solved, or so it seems.

I may have jinxed it by writing the post - just watch...
