POSIX error in Safari

You could try downloading the 10.4.1 OS Update using one of your other browsers and applying it. See if it rectifies the problem. I suspect it has to do with your system's WebKit framework.

If you've already done that, then perhaps try reinstalling WebKit from your Tiger DVD. If you can't find it manually then use Pacifist.

I received this message recently. Here are my specs. Did anyone on the post get this issue resolved?

What should I do? It does this for every webpage!!

It's a BSD code error, possibly evoked because something went wonky during installation. Try (in the order given)..

1. Restarting your PowerBook
2. Repairing disk permissions using Disk Utility
3. Reinstalling a la archive-&-install

Anybody else wants to give it a shot? From the symptoms cited, it sounds like it has to do with a network-associated system component. What sort of network do you have running? Or how do you connect to the internet?

Actually, I don't know how to start a different user account.

Browse to 'System Preferences' from the 'Apple icon' in the top left corner of your screen. Navigate to the 'Accounts' preference pane, (unlock it at the bottom of the panel if need be) and click on the '+' button.

Have you tried reinstalling just Safari?

The 10.4.1 update didn't include an updated Safari so that wouldn't have placed a new version on your system.

You can reinstall Safari by running the /System/Installation/Packages/Safari.pkg on your Tiger install DVD.

I got a similar error when uploading attachments via the .Mac web email interface. After deleting the folder -> ~/Library/Caches/Safari/ the error went away. Apparently, the folder was set to 'read only' and that casued the error. Hope that helps.

I am having the exact same problem, and have done what you suggested here, and reset Safari, but still no change.

any other ideas? I am not sure exactly when this happened, but here is what I was doing just before I realised the problem, I think it was the effect of one of these two, if that makes sense:

1. Playing around with the permission settings of a folder (on ~/sites/mysite) changed the permission settings to read+write for access group and others and chose "Apply to enclodes items"

2. Was trying to view an XML file I was working on and was getting error messages for viewing the file in Safari (error in XML)

would really appreciate any help, I'm really getting desperate. btw, I upgraded to tiger from osx 10.3.9 a few weeks ago and my current version is 10.4.2.

ok, to be exact, I also change my proxy settings before this happened. I used to use manual proxy settings and changed it to a proxy.pac address, it didn't work and changed it back to manual configurations. That's if that could have had any effects.

It looks like it was the proxy after all!

I deleted all the proxy settings (automated and manual) and set them up again, and everything is working fine now.

that's a really weird error msg to get for a proxy setting error.

anyway, so I suggest before you reset your Safari and lose all your passwords etc try the proxy settings if you're using one.
