POSIX error in Safari

Since yesterday, everytime I try to open a page in Safari I get the following error-message:" POSIX error: Cannot allocate memory (NSPOSIXErrorDomain: 12). Also some Dashboard widgets and the software-update page won't open.I work with Tiger 10.4 on a 1,25 GHz Power G4 with 512 MB DDR SDRAM and still 40 GB available. Can anyone help, please?

Hi Rob,

Did you try using Safari in a different user account as mentioned in your other post?

Let us know how that behaves as it gives us clues on where the root problem may be.

Hi iBod,

Thanks. Yes, I installed Safari 2.0 separately from my install DVD, as well on my original user account, as on the newly created one: same error message.

I fixed the problem by "resetting" Safari. I suspect a third party application affected the RAM in some malicious way. Does anyone have any insights on whether this might be the case?

I'm getting the same error also my itunes just quits when I start it up. Do you think i should contact apple?

For me the itunes worked except for the fact that the "party shuffle" feature wouldn't shuffle. I followed the recommendation of another poster on the itunes portion of this site and it worked.

Did you read my message 4.1? I just reset Safari and then it worked.
