Safari cannot connect to secure websites

I get the message "Safari can't open the page 'https://www.whatever' because it couldn't establish a secure connection to the server 'www.whatever'" This VERY annoying problem has appeared in the last 2 weeks, perhaps after the latest security update. I've Reset Safari, removed cookies, even installed the latest Safari upgrade 1.3.1 for 10.3.9. Safari works on secure sites on my other 2 computers. It worked fine before, now I've taken to using Firefox on this machine, which is how I was able to log on here.

Hi Robert ,

I am glad to hear that it is working, maybe it had something to do with
what was mentioned by Evelyn, for me earthlink( server) had access to Keychain so it would change Network config. i just had to turn off Scamblocker.
Perhaps trashing the Keychain, got rid of server access of that type?? Can't say for sure.

Horray , it works.

Hi Eme and Evelyn,
I'm starting to think my problem may not be Safari's fault but the news site I'm going to most of the problems I've had seem to happen when I go there. I am not having a problem with https sites, they have been on http sites.
I'm not using earthlink or Scamblocker. I am using a Telus (bell canada) server for internet connection. (DSL)
at any rate all seems good for now. Thankyou for the ideas, Robert.

The network setting was my problem as well. I unchecked the "Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS)" under the Proxies tab, which to my knowledge I never checked in the first place so I suspect some application update or installation did this at some point. Secure website from Safari are running again, thanks for the great advice.
