Dell 2130cn

I have a Dell 2130cn printer that does not have mac drivers.

I've done everything this thread tells me to do to get up and running and printing in color: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8492020

I can ONLY print in black and white.

My driver is: Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer Foomatic/pxlmono

No where do I have an option to change my print settings to color, only by resolution and quality.

Do I have the appropriate driver? Where can I change to default to color if my driver is correct.

Did you also install Ghostscript and Foomatic-RIP? They are needed to use the PPD you downloaded. _http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/foomat ic_

Thank you very much, Matt, for your response. No, I didn't and I am not sure exactly what to download from there, nor in what order to install them. Would it be possible to get a more detailed explanation?

You need to download gplgs-8.64so-ub.dmg and Foomatic-RIP 4.0.2. Each of these disk image files contains an installer. You need to install Ghostscript from the gplgs-8.64so-ub.dmg disk image first. Then install Foomatic-RIP 4.0.2 from its disk image.

Thanks so much, Matt, I truly appreciate your help. Did as you instructed, and now the printer does print, but not colors. The ppd that I have is Generic-PCL 6_PCL_XLPrinter-pxlcolor.ppd . Is that not the correct ppd? I am rather new to Mac and confess that I know very little, so admit that I am a real pain in the you-know-what. But I do learn quickly and am good at following direction.

I should have mentioned that I did go to http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/ and try to set Printout Mode to Normal, but is needed a signin with password, and I do not belong to that site.

That is the correct procedure. You actually do belong to "that site". That site is coming from your own computer. It is the web interface to the printing system. Just enter your administrator's user name and password.

Yippee, skippy, I have color! Thanks so much for your assistance, especially being specific about what processes to download and in what order to install. I am eternally grateful and hope to be able to reciprocate some time.

I tried installing all of the things said here and it worked but was realllllly slow if i was printing anything that was not a word document.

I decided to try to download the Dell 1320 Color Laser printer driver and used that driver instead and it works perfectly (as far as I can tell). With this driver what used to take 20 minutes to print (any PowerPoint) now comes out in less than a minute!!!

Hey guys, thanks SO much for posting this information. I've had my Dell 3100cn printer sitting idle for 3 years now because I couldn't find a mac driver. Now by downloading this software I'm able to print to it.

I don't seem to be able to change any settings at all, but at least it prints over the network.
